Jo-Bolt is a trade name for an internally threaded three-piece rivet. A Jo-Bolt consists of three factory preassembled parts, a threaded steel alloy bolt, a threaded steel nut, and an expandable stainless steel sleeve. During installation the bolt is turned while the nut is held. This causes the sleeve to expand over the end of the nut, forming the blind head and clamping against the work. When driving is complete, a portion of the bolt breaks off. The high shear and tensile strength of the Jo-Bolt  fasteners makes them suitable for use in high-stress applications where some of the other blind fasteners would not be practical. Other advantages include their excellent resistance to vibration, weight saving, and fast installation by one person. Jo-Bolts are often encountered in the permanent structure of late model aircraft, in areas which are not often subjected to replacement or servicing. CHERRY® AEROSPACE MAXIBOLT® Blind Bolts (also termed as rivets) are multi-piece assemblies, capable of being installed from one side of the workpiece. Typically used in higher strength aircraft structural areas they are offered as Maxibolt®,  Maxibolt® Plus and Titanium Maxibolt® Blind Bolts. CHERRY® Maxibolt® Blind Bolts are supplied in alloy steel and A-286 CRES materials. They conform to MS90353/MS90354, and MS21140/MS21141 Standards, meet MIL-F-81177 and MIL-F-8975 requirements, and are listed in QPL81177 and QPL8975. Shear strength for the steel version is 112 KSI and  95 KSI for the A286 CRES version.  CHERRY® Maxibolt® Plus Blind Bolts are available in -5, -6, and -8 diameters and stainless steel, and titanium materials. Blind Rivets are multi-piece rivet assemblies, capable of being installed from one side of the workpiece.Traditionally, blind rivets were used on aircraft leading edges, trailing edges, and close out areas which are limited to access to one side of the structure.  Current blind rivet usage has expanded to many additional areas of the aircraft in an effort to decrease labor expense and to address the ergonomic issues of solid riveting.

The CherryMAX® locked spindle blind rivets by CHERRY® AEROSPACE are the most reliable, high strength structural fasteners with visual inspectability in the world today. They are also known as "bulbed" fasteners due to their large blind side bearing surface, developed during the installation process. Solid shank rivets are relatively low-cost,  permanently installed fasteners used as structural parts in aircraft and other applications where reliability and safety consist a priority.  These rivets are produced in accordance with military and other international standards such as US Army-Navy (AN) standard and Mil-Spec (MS) that followed. AN426/MS20426 and AN470/MS20470 Series rivets are solid aluminum rivets with countersunk head or universal head respectively. CHERRY® AEROSPACE MBC® Blind Fastening System  is one of the industry’s simplest and most versatile riveting systems available today. These fasteners are offered as standard MBC® rivets, simple, two-piece assemblies comprised of a MBC® rivet sleeve and a stem with an integral locking feature and as MBC® Lock Creator rivets (MBC®-L/C), same as the standard MBC® rivets with the addition of a lock creator anvil. This additional component simplifies installation of the fastener by allowing a single nose tip for installing the three available diameters, as in the CherryMAX® type rivets. Rivet cutters of different types are commonly used in Aerospace and many industrial applications. These quality heavy duty tools are made by different manufacturers mostly in hand-held but also in bench mounted versions and can be used for cutting rivets of aluminum and other materials od different diameters and lengths. Rivet Pin Gauges from HI-SHEAR CORPORATION,  subsidiary of LISI AEROSPACE, can be used for inspection or measurement of correct grip length of HI-LITE™ / HI-LOK™ rivet pins. Different HI-SHEAR Pin Protrusion Gauges are offered for respective HI-LITE™ / HI-LOK™series pins. HI-SHEAR Grip Gauge Assemblies can be used to measure the “grip length” of HI-LOK™ and HI-LITE™ pins, shear lockbolts, structural screws and bolts. The HI-SHEAR 2-651 Grip Gauge Assembly includes one HI-SHEAR 2-612 Grip Gauge & one HI-SHEAR 2-615 Grip Gauge Slide. The 2-612 Grip Gauge measures in increments 1/16” to 3”(1 mm to 75 mm). Countersinking is used to ensure that flat head screws or fasteners sit flush against the workpiece. Countersinks used in aerospace and industrial applications are made of durable materials such as High Speed Steel (HSS) known for its hardness, toughness, and ability to withstand high temperatures. High Speed Steel (HSS) countersinks are well suited for cutting aluminum sheet metals. When combined with Cobalt, an alloying agent in steels to improve the hardenability, strength, and wear resistance in machining applications but also due to its ability to resist wear at higher temperatures, the  respective countersinks are often used for cutting stainless steel and other aluminum alloys.

Because of the difference in composition between HSS and Cobalt, main strengths of HSS countersinks are their high hardness and wear resistance. Therefore, as a general rule, they consist a better choice when you want your countersinks to retain their strength even when exposed to extreme wear or abuse. For higher hardenability, strength, and wear resistance and in applications when when countersinks are to be exposed to extremely high temperatures, cobalt countersinks should best be used.
