Composites, Foams & Other Materials & Products

This category includes composites such as carbon fiber composites or fiberglass, foams & other materials and products used in avaition and other industrial applications.

Composite Materials

Composite materials are made up of two or more materials with different chemical and physical properties and exhibit enhanced properties compared with their base materials. Typical examples include reinforced plastics, such as fibre-reinforced polymer or fiberglass, composite wood such as plywood, ceramic matrix composites, carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP), or carbon fiber composites, and others. Carbon fiber composites are made by combining carbon fibers with a resin, such as vinyl ester or epoxy, to create a composite material with higher performance properties. They are stronger, lighter and more durable alternatives for many applications traditionally made with wood or metal. With a typical tensile strength of 400 – 500 ksi and average density of 1.55 g/cc, CFRP composites can be up to 10 times stronger and 5 times lighter than steel.

Kevlar® is an extremely strong , heat-resistant, synthetic, lightweight fiber providing the perfect balance of form and function. It delivers high tensile strength that brings improved protection and performance across a range of industries and applications (life protection, aerospace, automotive, mining protection, fiber optics, ropes & cables, consumer products and others). Whether it’s used for protection, consumer products or transportation, Kevlar® keeps you at the forefront of innovation.

Foam Materials

Foam materials are widely used in various industries and applications, from bedding and furniture to packaging and insulation. Different types of foam include:

Polyurethane Foam, a versatile and commonly used foam material used in the vast majority of home products and interior furniture including upholstery, mattresses, cushions, and insulation due to its excellent comfort and insulation properties.

Memory Foam, also known as viscoelastic foam, a type of polyurethane foam known for its ability to contour to the body’s shape and provide excellent pressure relief. Commonly used in mattresses, pillows, and medical applications.

Polyethylene Foam, a closed-cell foam with exceptional shock absorption and cushioning properties. This foam material is commonly used in packaging, sports equipment, flotation devices, and automotive applications.Because of its high density and firm structure, polyethylene foam is extensively used in industrial applications.

Neoprene Foam, a flexible and durable foam exhibiting resistance to water, oils, and chemicals. Often used in wetsuits, sports equipment, gaskets, and sealing applications. Neoprene foam provides excellent insulation and cushioning properties. Neoprene is most commonly known for its use in wetsuits, and comes as a layer of rubber usually coated on one or both sides with a thin layer of nylon material.

Latex Foam, made from natural or synthetic latex rubber. It is known for its elasticity, comfort, and breathability. Latex foam is used in mattresses, pillows, and upholstery. Natural latex foam is considered more environmentally friendly compared to synthetic latex foam. For the eco-conscious consumer, or those looking for a more luxurious feel to their cushions, latex is a popular option.

Polypropylene Foam, a lightweight and flexible foam that offers resistance to moisture and chemicals. It finds applications in automotive components, packaging, insulation, and cushioning. Polypropylene foam provides excellent thermal insulation properties.

Closed-Cell Foam consisting of sealed cells, making it impermeable to air and water. It offers excellent buoyancy and insulation properties. Closed-cell foam is commonly used in flotation devices, insulation, and water sports equipment.

Outdoor Foam, often described as reticulated foam, is specifically designed to withstand exposure to the elements. Unlike standard foam materials, outdoor foam is engineered to be more durable, water-resistant, and resistant to mold and mildew growth. Because of its open cell structure, water and other liquids will easily pass through the foam, allowing it to dry quickly and easily, and reducing the chance for mold or mildew to develop in the cushion.

Composite Materials'...

Fabric-based composites are used considerably for applications in many different industriea including  aerospace, defense, automotive, marine, construction  and others. Depending on the appllication, the composite materials  and therefore the fabrics used for their production possess, are in most cases required to feature high durability and strength, light weight, and a meaningful cost for replacement of steel or other materials in different uses.

Different fabrics used for composite laminations come in different types such as knitted , woven, and nonwoven with woven fabrics often used as reinforcement materials. Textile-reinforced composite materials are generally lower priced and more widely available as they are increasingly being produced via automated rather than manual methods. Their textile fabrics are pre-formed in terms of weaving, knitting, braiding, stitching, nonwoven, and so on. The composition and structure of selected fabrics for reinforcement plays a significant role for achieving the expected performance characteristics from composites.

Extending our product portfolio we offer a wide selection of reinforcement fabrics for the composites industry, including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and Kevlar®. Sourced by quality manufacturers or their distributors they come in in various weights and weaves, different widths (usually 38", 50" and 60"),  in rolls with cut to length capability in yards (YD) or packages of 1,3 or 5 yards. Some of our commonly demanded reinforcement fabrics include fiberglass fabrics featuring excellent strength, durability, and affordability, carbon fiber fabrics exhibiting high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent stiffness and DUPONT KEVLAR® brand aramid fabrics with their exceptional strength and resistance to impact making them a preferred choice in aerospace, and industrial applications requiring high tensile strength and toughness. Hybrid fabrics are also offered combining different types of fibers to achieve a balance between strength, stiffness, and cost.

TRIATIC Diamond & CBN...

TRIATIC INCORPORATED manufactures diamond and CBN (*) electroplated wheels, tools and other products for composite applications. They can be used for for applications in composites, fiberglass, ceramics, and other hard, abrasive materials.

TRIATIC Diamond Countersinks are offered in various diameters and angles with or without slots and pilots, straight shanks or threaded shanks. The diamond coating is extremely tough and durable resulting in a tool with long life, reducing tool changes and unnecessary downtime.

Their electroplated Diamond Coated Router Bits are available in a variety of sizes, with flat or round ends, with or without slots and coolant holes. The flat face is ideal for routing, slotting and trimming composites and other hard abrasive materials. The round end tools can be used to drill and form shapes. Slots enable quicker removal rates and improved clearance for deeper grinding. Coolant holes can be added for through coolant on the end of the tool and side ports.

TRIATIC also offers Diamond Saws, Circular, Hole & Jig. Their Saw Blades electroplated with 40/50 grit diamond are ideal for cutting off or slotting fiberglass and other fiber reinforced plastic and composite materials and alumina. Diamond hole saws cut more accurately, leave a smoother finish, and and last up to twice as long as carbide-grit-coated teeth. Electroplated diamond saw blades are for use on reinforced plastic, composites, stone, brick, and other abrasive materials with high silicon content. TRIATIC diamond saw blades are available with or without slots. Depending on the material, slots can help keep the diamond section free of loading, keeping the blade free cutting and cool. The diamond hole saws are unmounted but arbors are available if necessary.

(*) Diamond and Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) are both extensively used materials in tooling. Both are extremely hard. Diamond is a crystalline form of carbon. CBN doesn't exist in nature and is synthesized from boron and nitrogen. Generally, diamond is preferred for shaping extremely hard workpiece materials such as ceramics, carbides, stone and glass. CBN is better suited for applications generating high temperatures. TRIATIC diamond tools can be used with fiberglass, carbon, FRP, ceramics, carbide, quartz, marble/granite and other non-ferrous abrasion-resistant materials. CBN can be used with high speed tool steels, die steels, harden carbon steels, monel, inconel, rene, waspalloy and other hard ferrous superalloys.

(**) The abbreviation OAL in different TRIATIC parts means Overall all Length.
