High-Speed Steel (HSS) is a metal alloy made up primarily of iron, tungsten, and carbon. It's known for its hardness, toughness, and ability to withstand high temperatures without losing its strength or shape. It also has excellent abrasion resistance properties, which make it useful for cutting tools. HSS drill bits are extremely hardwearing and particularly well designed for drilling into relatively hard metal surfaces and wood, as they are much more resistant to the heat generated from the fast speed operation. The front edges cut the material, whilst the spirals remove debris from the hole. Apart from HSS, Cobalt is often used as an alloying agent in steels to improve the hardenability, strength, and wear resistance in machining applications but also due to its ability to resist wear at higher temperatures while still maintaining its strength and shape. Cobalt-based alloys are typically harder than HSS alloys but are also more prone to cracking or chipping if not handled properly. Compared to HSS drill bits which are more elastic and, as such, don't break easily, those containing cobalt are more brittle and chip quickly.

Because of the difference in composition between HSS and Cobalt, main strengths of HSS drill bits are their high hardness and wear resistance. Therefore, as a general rule, they consist a better choice when you want your drill bits to retain their strength even when exposed to extreme wear or abuse. For higher hardenability, strength, and wear resistance and in applications when when drill bits are to be exposed to extremely high temperatures, cobalt drill bits should best be used.

MIL-spec were initially developed to standardize wires and cables used in military equipment. For many years, wires used in aircraft met MIL-W-5086  mil-spec and SAE-AS50861 standards superseeding them. They were manufactured with the use of tin-coated copper conductors rated at 600 volts and temperatures of 105°C and various insulating coatings including polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The PVC insulation provided resistance to abrasion, among many other things. Still in production, MIL-W-5086  cables in their various types of conductors and jacket constructions are used, apart from the aircraft in other applications that require resistance to abrasion, cut-through, impact, chemicals, and fuels. They are gradually replaced by those made in accordance with Mil-W-22759 standard due to toxic fumes generated by PVC insulation in the event of a fire. The Mil-W-22759 standard transitioned to SAE AS22759 in 2004. These two standards are essentially identical and cover a of wide range of single conductor wires (please refer to the Product Description section and supplied documentation for assistance).

Sourced from quality producers, AS22759/M22759 wires are offered as part of our own labelled (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines in different configurations, various AWG(*) sizes, in white (standard) or other color variations (desired color should be specified at the time of ordering). They are suitable for use in a range of applications in military and civilian aircraft, in harsh aircraft engine environments, for control surfaces as well as applications in areas subject to severe weather and moisture-prone (SWAMP).

Those commonly used are SAE AS22759/16  unshielded wires (replacing wires produced as per M22759/16 /17/18 and /19  specifications) but other configurations can be available. This specification uses stranded tin plated copper or silver plated high strength alloy conductors and extruded ethylene/tetrafluorbethylene (ETFE) insulation. Respective wire ratings are 150° C and 600 Volts.

RG 400 (aka M17/128*) cables are high temperature coaxial cables used in a wide variety of military and commercial applications.

Sourced from quality suppliers, these cables are offered as part of our own label (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines and are intended for use in tactical operations and aerospace applications. They are are double shielded and made from dielectric PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) material and fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) Type IX sheath with a solid copper stranded wire silver-plated conductor. They feature an impedance of 50 +/-2 ohms and an operating temperature range -55 °C ... +200 °C. They are priced and sold in feet. They come with Certificate of Conformance (CoC) and test reports. (*) M17/128 is a military part number used as equivalent to the RG400 cable. The the specifications and testing of military coaxial cables, including RG400, are very rigorous requiring their manufacturers to test attenuation and structural return loss by sweeping 22 different 50-ohm cables over the frequency band for which their use is recommended.

Countersinking is used to ensure that flat head screws or fasteners sit flush against the workpiece. Countersinks used in aerospace and industrial applications are made of durable materials such as High Speed Steel (HSS) known for its hardness, toughness, and ability to withstand high temperatures. High Speed Steel (HSS) countersinks are well suited for cutting aluminum sheet metals. Steel alloy 4130 (ST4130), also known as Chrome Moly after the 2 key elements of its composition, chromium, and molybdenum, is a general-purpose alloy steel widely used by the aviation and motorsports industries due to its weldability, fabrication, and mild hardenability in all offered forms (tubes, bars, sheets and plates). They are available in two different material states (Normalized and Annealed) depending on the process of how the material is heated and cooled.

The Normalized condition (sometimes referred to as "Condition N") is the harder and stronger condition and is best used when forming is not needed. Normalizing relieves internal stress on steel and improves toughness in steels that may harden after the cold working process. The Annealed condition (sometimes referred to as "Condition A") is the softer and formable condition and is best used when forming is needed. Annealing relieves internal stresses, softens and makes the material more ductile.

4130 alloy steel (Chrome Moly) seamless round tubes are offered as part of our own branded (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines in Normalized (N )  or Annealed (A) conditions indicated by the letters "NRZ" and  "ANL" respectively in the product reference code (SKU). They have been for years the standard of the aircraft industry. These tubes offer good strength and weldability without compromising steel abrasion or impact resistance and can also be made even stronger through heat treatment. They are commonly used in in structural applications, gears, fasteners, and aircraft exteriors. Tensile Strength: 90,000 PSI. Available in a range of outer diameters, wall thicknesses and pre-cut lengths in inches or cut to order (CTO) lengths of 12 inches (1 foot)) or multiples. Apperating price of CTO tubes is per foot (12 inches). Depending on the supplier, they comply with different standards/specifications, such as MIL-T6736 standard or ASTM/A S1906 specifications. Sourced from quality producers, the MIL-DTL-27500 shielded electical cables are offered as part of our own label (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines consisting cost-effective alternatives to the respective OEM products. Depending on the producer and specification, MS27500 cables come with stranded copper single or mltiple conductors (cores), nickel, silver or tin-plated and individually insulated, different number of strands, different chemically inert fluoropolymer insulation materials with good ozone and oxidation resistance as well as single or double shields. Their jackets are made of fluoropolymer, PTFE, glass, or polyamide tape.

The DIALIGHT 800/801-series MS25041 are high-quality Miniature press-to-test indicators with built-in bulb testing device and an adjustable dimmer (801 series). They use T 1 3/4 bulbs with midget flange base such as GE-330 (12V) or GE-327 (24V) bulbs but LED replacement bulbs can also be used (*).

100 Series

Sourced from co-operating quality manufacturers holding ISO and other certifications, the AVIATION NEW ERA tires are available in Tube or Tubeless types in different ply ratings, tread patterns and sizes to meet respective rated load and pressure requirements of intended applications. For tube type tires, matching tire inner tubes with different types of valves are also offered. The AVIATIONEU NEW ERA aircraft tires and inner tubes are intended as cost-effective alternate parts to the respective known brands. 

They are approved for use on the respective aircraft in their country of origin and other countries where they are exported depending on signed bilateral agreements between the respective Civil Aviation Authority of the producer and the export country.

The AVIATIONEU NEW ERA silicone insulated waterproof cables are available in different numbers of solid or stranded tinned copper conductors and AWG sizes (*) with silicon insulation jacket. (*) Wire gauge is a measurement of wire diameter. This determines the amount of electric current a wire can safely carry, as well as its electrical resistance and weight.

Turbine engine oils (TEO) used in commercial aircraft and general aviation engines are conforming with the US military specification MIL-PRF-23699 (formerly MIL-L-23699), an essential step in the process of gaining engine equipment manufacturer approval in different engine, engine accessories and auxiliary power unit types. Although primarily a military specification, MIL-PRF-23699 has served the commercial aviation sector since the 1960s and still used today. This specification covers four oil  categories:

STD – Standard

HTS – High Thermal Stability

C/I – Corrosion Inhibited (for military use only). Oils in this category include AeroShell Turbine Oil 531, Eastman Aero-D, NYCO TURBONYCOIL 601 and Castrol AeroJet 5.

EE – Enhanced Ester

In the case of TEOs, hotter running engines with extended times between overhauls are not adequately covered by MIL-PRF-23699 for the type of oil needed in modern commercial engines requiring additionaly tighter controls

In 2005, SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) has issued SAE AS5780 to replace MIL-PRF-23699 defining two grades of oil:

SPC – Standard Performance Capability, almost identical to STD except for additional reporting items.

HPC – High Performance Capability. SAE HPC grade has more stringent performance requirements compared with the MIL-PRF-23699 HTS grade.

Most commonly used aircraft turbine engine oil brands fall under both MIL-PRF-23699 and SAE AS5780 specifications in the respective categories. 

Examples: 

- STD/SPC: Castrol 500 (*),AeroShell 500, AeroShell 560,Mobil Jet II, etc.

- HTS/HPC: Mobil Jet Oil 254, Eastman 2197, etc. 

Furthermore, certain oils comply with different specifications to those of MIL-PRF-23699 or  SAE AS5780.

Note: HTS/HPC oils offer improved temperature capabilities (engine cleanliness) but at the cost of lower elastomer compatibility & higher prices. Most engines run well on STD/SPC oils.

Anchor nuts (aka nutplates or anchor plates) are terms used interchangeably and relate to stamped sheet metal fasteners with an internally threaded tube and a plate with two clearance holes for rivets. Initially designed and still extensively used in aerospace applications, they are today also used in automotive, motorsports, and other industries in blind mounted panel applications where hex nuts cannot be used or an attached nut is required for ease of maintenance. They can be Fixed or Floating, the latter being easier to install due to their built-in nut (threaded hole) able to "float" slightly thus providing a convenient connection point for threaded rods, such as bolts, from the backside. In the case of Fixed anchor nuts, the built-in nut is static (i.e. without the capability to “float”) and the threaded bolt must be positioned perfectly over the hole. Self-locking anchor nuts are those with a built-in locking mechanism preventing them from loosening over time from vibrations.

Anchor nuts are offered in Imperial (in.) and Metric thread sizes, in different materials (e.g. Carbon Steel, Steel alloys, CRES), finishes such as Cadmium or Cadmium Free Zinc Nickel platings (compliant to EU Regulations) with or without dry film lubrication. They come in various styles/configurations (e.g. with one or two lugs, full size or miniatures, countersunk, corner, right-angled bodies, etc.). They conform to different U.S., European and international standards such as the US Military MS and NASM, German DIN LN, French AFNOR NF, British BS, ISO and others.

Depending on the selected nutplate, aerospace anchor nuts are produced by different manufacurers, such as HOWMET AEROSPACE (formerly ARCONIC) or PAOLO ASTORI, and others, and offered as respective OEM parts or as parts of our own labelled (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines in the case of those used in industrial applications. Sold in pieces or packs of specified number of anchor nuts per pack indicated after the letters "PK" in the product SKU. 

Anchor nuts manufactured in accordance with DIN LN 29673 standard are Metric self-locking fixed one-lug anchor nuts designed with a single flange. Depending on the manufactuer, they are made from Carbon Steel / Steel Alloy termed as C1050, 25CrMo4, DIN 1.7220.3, 25CD4 with Cadmium plating & MoS2 low friction coating. Their counterparts of DIN LN29692 Standard are made from Incoloy Alloy® A-286 (also known as A286 Alloy Stainless Steel, a nickel and iron-based, austenitic superalloy) and can be used for temperatures  up to 425 °C. Both feature a tensile strength of 900 MPa. Offered in different Metric thread sizes from HOWMET AEROSPACE (separately listed), PAOLO ASTORI and others as OEM parts. Depending on the part number they are sold mostly in pieces but also in packs where the number of anchor nuts per pack is indicated after the letters "PK" in the product SKU.

AVIATIONEU NEW ERA product range of multigrade motor oils (indicated by the letter  "W") aim to ensure proper operation of the engine, wear and damage protection of different types of petrol, gas and diesel engines installed in passenger cars, vans and trucks. They contain a low-viscosity motor oil as well as various polymer additives. The additives have little effect at low temperatures, but cause the oil to thin down in hot conditions more slowly than usual.They come in different viscocity (SAE) grades to cover respective oil viscosity needs in different temperature ranges. In addition to SAE, AVIATIONEU NEW ERA motor oils  comply with American Petroleum Institute (API) service rating classification system of passenger car and commercial automotive motor oils. API rating certifies that an oil meets certain Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) quality and performance standards. Depending on their API classification, AVIATIONEU NEW ERA  motor oils aim to provide improved high temperature deposit protection for pistons, more stringent sludge control, and seal compatibility. There is currently no U.S. Military Standard (MS) specification for Metric nutplates. Depending on the selected product and availability, nutplates can be supplied with a dry film lube specified by the letter "L" in the respective part number. Those with countersunk rivet holes are specified by the letter "K" at the end of the part number.

Sourced from quality manufacturers, AVIATIONEU NEW ERA MS21078 series nutplates are fixed self-locking, two-lug nutplates with elastic insert and plain rivet holes.  Made from cadmium plated steel they are available in different Unified thread sizes and replace respective AN366F series nutplates.  Sold in pieces but also in packs where the specified number of nuts per pack is indicated after the letters "PK" in the product reference number (SKU). Appearing prices are always for the units of measurement used each time. Matching rivets are sold separately.
