National Aerospace Standards (NAS) are voluntary standards developed and maintained by committees and working groups of subject matter experts from member companies of the U.S. Aerospace Industries Association (AIA). These standards have served as the foundation for the development of aircraft, spacecraft, watercraft, ground vehicles, machinery, and electronics.

NAS parts are most well-known for state-of-the-art, high-strength, precision fasteners, electrical connectors, splices and terminations, rod end bearings, and many other types of hardware and components. The NA prefix relates to metric standards. 

NAS1473 Series Floating Self-Locking Two-Lug Capped Nut Plates (*) and their NAS1474 Series counterparts with reduced rivet spacing allow for a stronger, more secure hold when installing bolts on thin or unstable surfaces. These nut plates are capped, with the end of the bolt being fully protected. Both are are manufactured from cadmium plated steel or corrosion resistant (stainless) steel (CRES) by different manufacturers. R - A286 CRES nut, dome and washer passivated per AMS2700. Fuel resistant seal MIL-PRF-6855 (225 deg. F), dry-film lubricant per AS5272.

(*) also termed as plate nuts, anchor nuts or anchor plates. These terms are used interchangeably to describe the respective fasteners. 

Machine screws are one of the more widely used products among dozens of standard fastener types. They can be either coarse-threaded or fine-threaded, and are usually available with a wide range of head types. Usually stronger than many other screw types, they are used for fastening metal parts and panels securely together in a range of construction and other applications including aerospace, machinery, vehicles, engines, tool assemblies, electronic devices, and large-scale industrial equipment.

Countersunk screws allow the head of the screw to sit flush with or below the surface of the surrounding material. ATI® TOOLS 106A series flush swivel type rivets are manufactured from S2 high-grade shock-resistant steel and machined in accordance with MIL-STD GGG-R-425. They feature protection with plastic coating to prevent damage during shipment and storage, blended radius between cup and chamfer with no sharp edges, which coin or mar skin, highly polished precision cup, free of machine marks and ridges and chamfered corners. One of the most versatile metals in manufacturing today is Aluminum used to produce products in an almost limitless number of shapes for an almost limitless number of uses.

AL2024, the so-called aircraft aluminum, is an aluminium alloy, with copper as the primary alloying element. It is used in applications requiring high strength to weight ratio, as well as good fatigue resistance, weldablility and average machinability. The addition of copper to this alloy makes 2024 one of the strongest aluminum alloys. It comes in different tempers (O without heat treatment or T with heat treatment). It is non-magnetic and heat treatable but it also is more succeptible to corrosion than most other aluminum alloys. 

Due to the poor corrosion resistance of this alloy  it is often clad (specified as CLAD or ALCLAD) in which case high-purity aluminium surface layers are metallurgically bonded to the aluminium alloy core material. 2024-T3 is typically used in structures where a high strength to weight ratio is necessary, clock parts, computer parts, hydraulic parts, bolts, valves, nuts, pistons, and gears.

Two of the most commonly used processes for shaping aluminum include the extrusion and the drawing process. In the drawn aluminum tubing process the aluminum is pulled, or drawn into the die cavity, during which it undergoes what is called plastic deformation where the aluminum is stretched to achieve the desired shape. Drawn aluminum is most often used to create products including pots, cans, tubes and other circular objects. In the extrusion tubing process the formed shape is achived by first heating the aluminum to a very high temperature until it is soft and malleable but not liquid. Then it is forced or pushed through a die which enables molding and shaping of the desired final product. After extrusion, the finished extruded tubing product  begins to cool and harden becoming strong and durable and holding the desired shape.

Aluminum alloy 7075 (AL7075) is another "aircraft grade" aluminum with zinc and copper as its major alloying elements. Hole saws are versatile cutting tools primarily used to create circular openings in various materials. They are often preferred over standard drill bits when there is a need to create larger diameter holes. Hole saws come in different materials and types.

All aircraft develop fuel leaks at one time or another which can ground an aircraft for unspecified time intervals. AN316/NASM316 Series hexagonal steel cadmium plated  thin non-locking check nuts are Military Specification versions of non-locking jam nuts used typically to lock in adjustments where a male threaded part screws only partway into a female threaded part (rod ends, grub screws, bulkhead fittings, etc). AN316/NASM316 Series jam nuts are thinner than the AN315 specification nuts for use in tighter installations but the AN316/NASM316 hex check nuts can carry half the tension load of the AN315 nuts.

AN316 (REV. 11)., AIR FORCE-NAVY AERONAUTICAL STANDARD: Nut, Jam, Hexagon (25 Feb 1991). Superseded by NASM316. The Part Identification Number (PIN) for AN316 and the part number for NASM316 are identical. The part numbers have not been changed.

NASM35675/MS35675 series pins are headless pins with longitudinal straight grooves, made from corrosion resisting steel (CRES). MS35675 series pins are superseded by those of NASM35675 series.

Countersinking is used to ensure that flat head screws or fasteners sit flush against the workpiece. Countersinks used in aerospace and industrial applications are made of durable materials such as High Speed Steel (HSS) known for its hardness, toughness, and ability to withstand high temperatures. High Speed Steel (HSS) countersinks are well suited for cutting aluminum sheet metals. When combined with Cobalt, an alloying agent in steels to improve the hardenability, strength, and wear resistance in machining applications but also due to its ability to resist wear at higher temperatures, the  respective countersinks are often used for cutting stainless steel and other aluminum alloys.

Because of the difference in composition between HSS and Cobalt, main strengths of HSS countersinks are their high hardness and wear resistance. Therefore, as a general rule, they consist a better choice when you want your countersinks to retain their strength even when exposed to extreme wear or abuse. For higher hardenability, strength, and wear resistance and in applications when when countersinks are to be exposed to extremely high temperatures, cobalt countersinks should best be used.

Steel alloy 4130 (ST4130), also known as Chrome Moly after the 2 key elements of its composition, chromium, and molybdenum, is a general-purpose alloy steel widely used by the aviation and motorsports industries due to its weldability, fabrication, and mild hardenability in all offered forms (tubes, bars, sheets and plates). They are available in two different material states (Normalized and Annealed) depending on the process of how the material is heated and cooled.

The Normalized condition (sometimes referred to as "Condition N") is the harder and stronger condition and is best used when forming is not needed. Normalizing relieves internal stress on steel and improves toughness in steels that may harden after the cold working process. The Annealed condition (sometimes referred to as "Condition A") is the softer and formable condition and is best used when forming is needed. Annealing relieves internal stresses, softens and makes the material more ductile.

4130 alloy steel (Chrome Moly) seamless round tubes are offered in Normalized (N )  or Annealed (A) conditions as part of our own branded (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines. They have been for years the standard of the aircraft industry. These tubes offer good strength and weldability without compromising steel abrasion or impact resistance and can also be made even stronger through heat treatment. They are commonly used in in structural applications, gears, fasteners, and aircraft exteriors. Tensile Strength: 90,000 PSI. AL7050 (known as a commercial aerospace alloy) is a heat-treatable aluminium alloy with zinc as the main alloying element, combining high mechanical strength, good stress corrosion cracking resistance and toughness at subzero temperatures. Typical mechanical properties of 7050 aluminum in metric and imperial systems include a tensile strength of 515 MPa (74695 psi), a yield strength of 455 MPa (65992 psi) and a fatigue strength of 240 MPa (34809 psi). Particularly suitable for heavy plate aerospace and other commercial and military applications, such as fuselage frames, bulkheads, wing skins and aircraft structures.

The AL2024 aluminum alloy (with copper as the primary alloying element) also known as aerospace grade aluminum, is commonly used in aircraft structural applications due to its high strength and fatigue resistance.  It is suitable for applications requiring high stress and strain resistance. The AL2024 aluminum alloy is stronger but less versatile than AL6061 alloy, which is more corrosion resistant, easier to weld, and more suited to machining, but less strong than the AL7075 alloy.

AL2024 aluminum alloy sheets come as Annealed (O Temper) without heat treatment or as heat treated to attain their maximum strength. Heat treated sheets are available in vatious T tempers (such as T3,T4,T5,T6 and T651) for use in a range of aviation and industrial applications.

(*) ALCLAD is a corrosion-resistant aluminium sheet formed from high-purity aluminium surface layers metallurgically bonded (rolled onto) to high-strength aluminium alloy core material. As an enhanced sheet for fuselage applications, ALCLAD offers improved fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth while maintaining the strength characteristics of the alloy. ALCLAD also offers improved fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth while maintaining the strength characteristics of the alloy.

AL6061 is an aluminium alloy, with magnesium and silicon as the primary alloying elements. It is one of the most common alloys of aluminum for general-purpose use. Commonly available in pre-tempered grades such as 6061-O (annealed) as well as tempered grades such as 6061-T6 or 6061-T651. It can be compared with AL5052 (the highest strength alloy of the more non-heat-treatable grades) as well as with AL6063 which  is similar in composition and mechanical properties.
