CLEVELAND Organic &...

For a number of years Cleveland offered standard organic & heavy-duty asbestos brake linings for their wheels and brakes. In January 1988 these two types of brake linings were discontinued and a single, improved brake lining was introduced with improved performance and durability compared to older linings. Different versions are available to fit aircraft models based on their year of construction. Brake linings are sold as pad only or as kits together the required number of rivets. Most light aircraft take 2 linings per wheel. Extra rivets are also available. Please refer to the attached Application Guide for additional information.

RAPCO Organic & Metallic...

RAPCO produces quality FAA-PMA approved replacement organic and metallic brake linings for Cleveland and McCauley brake assemblies on most general aviation aircraft. Organic linings are actually made from a semi metallic mix. RAPCO combines brass, copper and Kevlar fibers with a high temperature binding compound to provide outstanding performance and long service life. Most RAPCO organic linings have a built in wear indicator, which reduces the risk of damage to the brake disc and helps to optimize lining life. RAPCO organic linings are available in boxes of 10 or in organic lining kits containing the proper number of linings and rivets necessary for replacement on Cleveland or McCauley brake assemblies. They are convenient to have on hand when the need for relining occurs. Metallic lining replacements for the Cleveland brake assemblies are made of sintered steel, a specially developed process that fuses metallic particles to a steel carrier plate. RAPCO metallic linings offer long life and excellent braking performance. Please refer to the attached Application Guide for additional information.

CLEVELAND 40-418 Series...

Parker Hannifin (Cleveland Aircraft Wheel & Brake Division) designs and manufactures wheel assemblies for worldwide aircraft markets. Their wheels, used in conjunction with tires, provide support for  the tires and weight of the aircraft. Combined with brakes, they assist in directional and stopping control during aircraft ground maneuvers, taxi, takeoff, and landing. Cleveland Wheels and Brakes brand products are used on more than 80 percent of general aviation aircraft while their wheel assemblies  are now offered for military and business aviation applications. Cleveland's product lines include both aircraft wheel and wheel and brake assemblies for nose and main wheels to meet a variety of aircraft specifications and brake assembly interfaces. Both main and nose wheels are made from either aluminum castings, magnesium castings, or aluminum forgings.

The main wheels are of the divided type, incorporating inner wheel half and outer wheel half, plus a disc, which are fastened together with tie bolts, washers, and nuts. Their key features include:

GOODYEAR® AVIATION FLIGHT SPECIAL® ΙΙ Series aircraft  tires are popular replacement tires for light aircraft due to their unsurpassed combination of value and performance. Designed for long tread life, these aircraft tires are built to last. Every strand of nylon cord in the casing has been triple tempered with time, tension and temperature to provide the ultimate in tire construction, uniformity and strength. They feature quality construction, wide rib thread design and large footprint, tough-wearing thread rubber and triple-tempered nylon casing cord resulting in enhanced traction, uniform wear and extended service life.

GOODYEAR® AVIATION FLIGHT CUSTOM® ΙΙI Series "Top of the Line" aircraft  tires set new records for long wear, high-strength and dependability. They feature dual polymer tread compound, enlarged tread contact area, extra-wide aquachannel grooves, sculptured sidewalls and Kevlar® belts for added tread stability. As a result benefis from their use include up to 20% more landings, superior wet traction treadwear and enhanced traction and treadwear assisting dimensional stability. 

GOODYEAR® AVIATION FLIGHT LEADER® Series tires are the bias-ply choice for commercial aircraft. They feature a bias-ply construction, a specialized cord body shape and a specially compounded tread design and large contact area. GOODYEAR® FLIGHT LEADER® tires offer high speed performance and greater load capacity but also reduced stress as the tire cycles from tension to compression. GOODYEAR® AVIATION FLIGHT...

GOODYEAR® AVIATION FLIGHT MATE (Butyl) tire tubes offer superior air retention in a wide range of temperatures, and dramatically reduce time spent maintaining proper tire pressure. They are made from natural rubber offering long life and meeting cold temperature performance requirements: extreme low temperature of minus 50 degrees C. These tubes  feature continuous extruded construction for uniformity, premium aircraft valves and an average weight of 3 lbs.

The benefits from their use include  excellent resistance to inflation loss due to the proprietary Butyl compound as well as better balance (no overlapped splice).

The GOODYEAR® AVIATION FLIGHT MATE butyl tubes are the perfect complement for Goodyear and other brand name aircraft tires. They comply with the requirements of SAE Aerospace Standard AS50141 and meet MIL-I-5014 military specification (except for packaging). 

The letter "B" indicates a BENT valve stem. The letter "S" indicates a STRAIGHT valve stem. The digits inside the parenthesis indicate the use with different tires as follows:

(1) For use in both 5.00-5 and G380x150-5 (15x6.00-5) tires.

(2) For use in both 6.00-6 and 15x6.00-6 tires

(3) For use in both 7.00-6 and 8.00-6 tires.

(4) For use in 6.50-8, 19.5x6. 75-8 & 22x8.00-8 tires.

MATCO MC 4 Universal Master...

MATCO mfg manufactures an extensive range of master cylinders for brake applications. MATCO mfg's MCMC-4 master cylinders use a REMOTE reservoir and are offered in different models. They can be mounted vertically or horizontally (Universal) to the exterior reservoir and can be used in individual or dual brake applications. They use a  0.625 inch diameter piston and Buna-n o-rings. Mil-H-5606 aircraft hydraulic fluid or compatible fluids are reccomended. DOT5 may be used but not DOT5.1 which contains glycol. DOT3 and DOT4 may not be used and will cause immediate damage to the seals. Tested to a maximum of 1200 psi. Normal operation: 400-600 psi. The MCMC-4 has an adjustable clevis.

MCMC-4 Product Features & Specifications:

Umiversal - Vertical or horizontal mounting with exterior reservoir.

Buna-n orings 

Measures 8.05 +-0.25 inches from end to end.

Measures 7.5 +-0.25 inches from mounting hole to mounting hole.

A 0.625 inch diameter piston is used.

Stroke is approximately 1.388 inches.

Displacement is 0.43 cubic inches.

The ports on all MATCO mfg master cylinders are 1/8 inch NPT (except the MC-4E).

MCMC4A is 0.50 inch shorter that the MCMC-4.

AIRCRAFT SPRUCE AERO...

AERO CLASSIC is Aircraft Spruce's proprietary line of over 50 aircraft tires and tubes made to meet or exceed the original specifications. The product line includes tires and tubes from 8" diameter for tailwheels, up to 56" diameter C-130 inner tubes.  AERO CLASSIC tubes are Tested to MIL-I-5014F standard. GROVE Model 49 4" Nose...

GROVE Nose Wheels are precision CNC machined from A356T aluminum or AZ81A-T4 magnesium and feature tapered roller bearings and felt grease seals. The 4" nose wheels are ideal for use in light sport aircraft. They are offered in different models. The 49-1A and 49-3A models are both rated for a static load of 1000 lbs. 49-1A nose wheel can be used with 400 x 8 ply tires or 4.10 x 3.50 x 4 ply tires. 49-3A nose wheel can be used with 2.80/2.50 4 ply tires or 4.10x3.50 4 ply tires.

GROVE Wheel Axles &...

GROVE manufactures axles and hardware for use in GROVE wheels as well as those of other manufacturers.

GROVE 500x5 wheel axles (P/N. 5013 standard and P/N. 5018 with wheel pant stub) are produced from solid 2024-T3 aluminum with anodized finish. They have a 1-15/16" Bolt Circle hole pattern and 1/4" diameter holes.

500x5 1-1/4" diameter standard axle (P/N. 5013) is the most popular axle for 500x5 wheels. It is designed to fit Grove 50-1, 51-1, 56-1, 57-1, 57-5 and Cleveland 500x5 wheels. Axle Weight: 0.92 lbs. Static Load Rating 1,250 lbs.

500x5 1-1/4" diameter axle (P/N. 5018) has built-in wheel pant stub with 1/4-28 thread. It is designed for use with Grove 50-1, 51-1, 56-1, 57-1, 57-5 and Cleveland 500x5 wheels. Axle Weight: 0.95 lbs. Static Load Rating 1,250 lbs.

Both axles require two spacers per axle (P/N. 5710) sold separately.  I.D: 1-1/4", O.D. 1-3/4", Thickness: 1/4". They can be used with 500x5 axles.

Standard axle nuts and axle bolt kits sold separately are also offered as part of GROVE product portfolio. Castle type nuts are manufactured to MIL Specification MS21025 using 4140 steel. Mild steel nuts are not acceptable for use on certificated aircraft. 1-1/4" dia. nuts for 500 x 5 axles, 1-1/2" dia. nuts for 600 x 6 axles.

MATCO PVPV Series Parking...

MATCO mfg's PVPV series parking brake valves have been designed for installation in a wide variety of homebuilt aircraft applications due to their light weight and easy in-line installation . In-line installation can be used in conjunction with either a single or dual parking brake system set- up with the respective use of valves  PVPV-S or PVPV-D available in single or double sided configuration.

CLEVELAND 199-10500 TSO'd...

Although magnesium wheels and brakes are considerably lighter, magnesium is subject to corrosion and should not be used for amphibious operation. Only organic linings should be used on all brakes. All parts of the 500 x 5 size wheels and brakes for amphibians are constructed of anodized aluminum for water resistance (199-105). Their use is suggested if bearings are kept well greased. A reasonable service can be expected, but earlier bearing replacement should be anticipated. Alternatively, the use of  wheels and brakes with chrome plated bearings and brake disc and water drainage holes (199-105C) is recommended for best results in amphibious use. However, they are too costly for use on homebuilt aircraft.

CLEVELAND 199-105C TSO'd Wheel and Brake Assembly includes wheels with matching hydraulic chrome brake disks. Wheels with chrome brake discs are FAA-TSO approved under the original model number. 

Wheels come complete with bearings and wheel covers. Brake assembly has linings installed. Sold in pairs only. Best suited for amphibious operations.

CLEVELAND Grease Seal for...

A grease seal, often called an oil or dirt seal, is a type of seal utilized to retain grease in a case or housing. Grease seals close spaces between stationary and moving components in mechanical equipment, helping prevent lubricant escape. Preventing harmful containments from entering machinery is another critical function of a grease seal. Oil and grease seals are available in numerous lip materials. Popular materials include felt, leather, urethane, nitrile, polyacrylate, ethylene-acrylic or polyacrylic, silicone, fluoro-elastomer, tetrafluoro-ethylene propylene and PTFE. Cleveland Grease Seals are intended for use in Cleveland Wheel Assemblies. 

ALASKAN BUSHWHEEL FAA TSO...

ALASKAN BUSHWHEEL INC. designs and manufactures ALASKAN BUSHWHEELS made for flying and landing off-field in the most rugged backcountry conditions. They absorb the energy of rough landings, taking the brunt of the impact off the pilots, wheels, gear, and airframe. Unlike your standard aircraft tire, Bushwheels are tubeless. This distinctive design eliminates the problem of tire slippage and stem shearing and makes it possible to run these tires at very low PSI. Different models are offered to suit needs of aircraft operating conditions. Alaskan Bushwheels are FAA TSO C62d approved. Models are available in the following versions and most of them fit standard 6" wheels:

Standard thread: 3/16"

Heavy thread: 1/4". Heavy tread 26" Bushwheels are constructed with a thicker tread layer. Suitable for pilots operating their aircraft on pavement between backcountry flights.

A wide range of aircraft tires and matching tubes are offered as part of our AVIATION NEW ERA product lines for use in main and nose wheel applications in general aviation, commercial, military aircraft and other projects. Sourced from quality manufacturers, tube-type or tubeless tires are available in different sizes, thread pattern types, rim diameters, ply ratings to meet respective rated load and pressure requirements of intended applications. Tire strength is indicated by the ply rating, the number of plies of reinforcing materials embedded in the rubber during the construction process to enhance the tire strength. Different tire size and strength designations used are specified in the product SKU. For tube type tires, matching tubes with straight or bent valves are also offered. All tires and tubes are supplied with our standard Certificate of Conformance. If other certification is required, please specify at order placement as additional cost may apply.

BERINGER Wheel Axles &...

BERINGER manufactures axles and hardware for use in their offered wheels.  BERINGER wheel axles are made of high grade aeronautical aluminum, red anodized or made of steel, nickel coated. Different types of axles are available:

• fork mounting : the axle is fitted both sides (for nose wheels)

• cantilever mounting : the axle is fixed on one side only (often used in main wheels)

BERINGER axles for main wheels are tapered for strength optimization : the offset is reduced and the two ball bearings have different sizes. Axles are FEM calculated for optimized weight and stress distribution.

The calipers are delivered fixed to the axles, in accordance with the drilling. Axle nuts and spacers, sold separately are also offered as part of BERINGER product portfolio. Some axles are mounted with spacers, other are not.

BERINGER Wheel Brake Parts...

BERINGER manufactures different brake parts for use in their offered wheels. Such parts include brake calipers, discs and pads.

BERINGER Brake Calipers/Discs are covered by the AEROTEC® patents.

Brake Calipers:

• Body made of aerospace alloy to withstand high temperatures (>200Mpa at 200°C)

• Sintered metallic pads bonded on a backplate (not riveted)

• 2 or 3 stainless steel polished pistons

• Available for DOT4 fluid OR for MINERAL (MIL FLUID) (seals are different- specify and never mix)

• 2 inlets/outlets, thread size M10x1 (for brake fluid)

Brake Discs:

• Made of highest quality material for thermal stability and long life 

• Stainless steel discs or high strength steel discs with coating

Brake Pads:

Different brake pads are also offered as part of BERINGER product portfolio.

BERINGER ALIR Anti-Skid...

An antiskid brake system in aircraft ensures that the tires will not wear excessively or burst while braking by reducing the brake pressure when the wheel is locked, thereby ensuring the safety of aircraft take-off and landing. Many accidents are caused by a bad braking handling. Antiskid brake systems improve the control and dosage of the brakes and still allow differential braking while the pressure remains below the setpoint.

BERINGER manufactures ALIR adjustable anti-lock pressure regulators for differential or symmetrical braking for use in their offered wheel systems. They are included in most of the BERINGER Kits. The regulator is integrated in the differential circuit providing a double advantage:

• Anti-lock : the regulator sets a maximal pressure in the system before the wheels lock up (or before a nose over for taildraggers)

• In line braking : once the setpoint is reached, the pressure between left and right hand is balanced, with a tolerance of +/- 1bar or 14.5psi to allow steering corrections

The regulator prevents the wheel lock up at landing and the nose over for taildraggers, in case of overpressure on the brake pedals. Therefore it reduces the stopping distances. ALIR regulators are adjustable from 10 to 40 bar (or from 20 to 50 bar) and available for DOT4 or Minéral (MIL) brake fluids. Brake fluid should never be mixed as seals are different. Dual regulators are mounted in a differential braking circuit (each braker master cylinder actuates one wheel). Single regulator are mounted in a symmetrical braking circuit (one master cylinder actuates both wheels).

Carbon Brake Heat Packs...

Carbon brakes consist an alternative to steel brakes. Originally used in high-performance military aircraft applications, their lower weight and higher energy absorption capability justified their higher cost compared to those of steel or powder metallurgy brakes. Carbon brakes are today used on commercial airplanes(particularly on larger, long-haul commercial ones) resulting in longer life span, improved operating economics in addition to the weight savings and performance improvements offered. Retrofitting carbon brakes onto existing airplanes can decrease fuel costs for certain models.

Commercial (Civil) Aircraft...

Aerospace braking systems serve a vital function during takeoff, landing and taxiing. Along with landing gear, aircraft wheels and brakes are subject to extreme forces, stress, as well as wear and tear from general operation and the environment. Steel brakes were used for years as standard in the aviation sector. Since the 1980s, they are being replaced more and more with carbon brakes. Steel brakes are relatively heavy and can only withstand temperatures up to 2,000°C (3,600°F). In addition, they must be replaced after an average of 1,000 landings. Carbon brakes, originally used in high-performance military aircraft applications, are today used on commercial airplanes (particularly on larger, long-haul commercial ones). They are considerably lighter than steel brakes, they exhibit a higher energy absorption capability, have a longer life span, lower maintenance costs and an improved performance (they can withstand temperatures of up to 3,000°C (5,400°F) while their service life is longer, 2,000 landings on average). All these positively affect operating economics and thus increasingly used in newer aircraft and retrofits justifying their higher cost compared to those of steel or powder metallurgy brakes.
