Integral fuel tanks in aircraft form part of their wing or fuselage structure and they are commonly met in high-performance aircraft as they are the lightest, with most space per unit of weight. Rigid removable aircraft fuel tanks are also used in some aircraft, typically made of stainless steel or aluminum alloy and riveted together. Flexible fuel tanks (aka fuel bladders) are fuel containers made of reinforced flexible materials. They share many characteristics with rigid tanks but they require a smaller opening in the aircraft to be installed. Also used in other sectors for rapid deployment of storage facilities or increase capacity of fuels (gasoline, diesel or jet fuel) but also for water, oils, or as emergency units. They are made of high-quality PVC, EVA, and TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) coated fabrics, are fully UV resistant, and can operate at temperatures from -50°C to +90°C, ensuring durability and reliability under the most demanding conditions. Made by different manufacturers, these tanks conform to commercial standards while some of them are ballistic-tolerant or engineered for mission-critical military or aerospace uses, meeting respective commercial (such as TSO-C80 and 14 CFR Part 29) as well as military specifications like MIL-DTL-6396, MIL-DTL-5578, and MIL-DTL-27422.

Tank adhesives/sealants come in different compounds (chemical composition) and respective prices, and their selection heavily depends the material of the tank they shall be applied and the sealing content (water, oil, fuel, etc). The selection and use of any sealant during tank construction, maintenance or repair should always ensure sealant's compatibility with tank composition and chemical resistance to fuels or other fluids to be sealed. Commonly used sealants for tanks span from PVC, the more cost-effective but with low temperature resistance & toxic when burned, to more expensive but safer Silicone ones, with excellent flexibility, high and low-temperature resistance and biocompatibility, to Polyurethane sealants, durable but not so chemically resistant as Polysulfide, and Polysulfide rubber sealants, flexible, and extremely resistant to gasoline, ethanol and many other chemicals. 

For aircraft integral fuel tanks and rigid removable fuel tanks made of metals, two-part Polysulfide sealants are often the preferred choice. For flexible Polyurethane/Thermoplastic Polyurethane (PU/TPU) fuel tanks (bladders) the bonding/sealing material itself is often a specialized PU/TPU formulation for enhanced flexibility and durability,chemical resistance to hydrocarbon fuels, solvents, and oils, impact resistance, and bonding strength compared to traditional formulations. Silicone sealants are also used depending on application requirements.

Structural screws are made of alloy steel, are properly heat treated, and can be used as structural bolts. Those commonly used in aircraft applications are manufactured to aerospace/military standards/specifications. AVIATIONEU NEW ERA MS27039 Series structural machine screws are pan head cross recessed screws equivalent to those of NAS 220 Series. MS27039 Series screws are fabricated from Alloy Steel and Cadmium plated per specification QQ-P-416A, Type II, Class 3, Anodized Aluminum Alloy 2024 or Stainless Steel Unplated  to MIL-S-6050 or MIL-8695 specifications. These screws have 125,000 to 145,000 psi tensile strength. PPG AEROSPACE® Corrosion Inhibitive Aircraft Sealants & Jointing Compounds include different products offered in different packings.

PPG AEROSPACE® P/S (Pro Seal) 870 Corrosion Inhibitive Sealants are two-part, manganese dioxide cured polysulfide compounds.  They have a service temperature range from -65°F (-54°C) to 250­°F (121°C), with intermittent excursions up to 275° (135°C). They act as an effective barrier against the common causes of corrosion on the aluminum alloys or between dissimilar metals. The cured sealant maintains elastomeric properties after limited exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas. Offered in A, B & C classes.

P/S 870 Class A uncured material is suitable for application by brush in thickness up to 25 mils. It cures at room temperatures to form a resilient sealant having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates. Supplied in two-part kits and Semco® cartridges.

P/S 870 Class B uncured material is a low sag, thixotropic paste suitable for application by extrusion gun or spatula. It cures at room temperature to form a resilient sealant having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates. Available in two-part kits or Semkit® cartridges. 

P/S 870 Class C uncured material is designed for roller and faying surface sealing applications. It cures at room temperature to form a resilient sealant having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates. Available in two-part kits and Semco® cartridges.

PPG AEROSPACE® Proseal P/S 890 Class A and B are aircraft integral fuel tank sealants. They have a service temperature range from -65°F (-54°C) to 250°F (121°C), with intermittent excursions up to 275°F (135°C). Proseal P/S 890 Class A is designed for brush and fay sealing of fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselge sealing applications. Proseal P/S 890 Class B  is designed for fillet sealing of fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications. The cured sealants maintain excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas.  Both are two-part, manganese dioxide cured polysulfide compounds. In the case of Proseal P/S 890 Class A, the uncured material is suitable for applicaiton by brush in thickness up to 25 mils. Flared tube coupling nuts conforming SAE International standard AS5175 are used for a leak-free solution on aircraft and other applications replacing respective AN818 parts. They are offered  as part of our own (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines in different materials and grades and multiple thread sizes to suit application needs. Material Code Letters in the part numbers indicate the composition of the fitting (No code for Steel 1137 or 4130, "D" for Aluminum alloys (except 7075-T73), "J" for 304 Stainless Steel (CRES 304), "K" for 316 Stainless Steel (CRES 316), "T" for Titanium 64AI-4V or "W" for Aluminum 7075-T73. These nuts are designed to be used with AS5176 and MS20819 sleeves. The 2 digits after the series code indicate the tubing outer diameter (O.D.)  in inches. Finish code “V” in the PN indicates high purity Aluminum coating for “W” or “D” fittings. Depending on their Part Number they are sold in pieces but also in packs a with specified number of fittings indicated after the letters "PK" in the product reference number (SKU).

Note: In SAE AS standards for new designs, aluminum fittings with material code letter D in their Part or Identifying Number (PIN) are replaced by those with material code letter W for Aluminum Alloy 7075-T73 providing a higher tensile strength.
