DANFOSS EATON AEROQUIP® AE246/AE446/AE546/AE846 Series PTFE Hoses and Hose Assemblies SKU: EAQP-HOSE-AE246/AE446/AE546/AE846

EATON AEROQUIP® brand name represents quality and innovation for aerospace and other industrial applications with a wide range of hoses, fittings, couplings and connectors available to cover application requirements. Eaton’s hydraulics were acquired by DANFOSS and form part of DANFOSS product portfolio.

DANFOSS EATON AEROQUIP® AE246/AE446/AE546/AE846 Series Hoses are based on AE246 advanced technology designed, tested and proved high pressure 3000 psi PTFE hose with Hi-Pac®braid reinforcement containing densely packed small diameter wires braided over a minimum thickness Teflon tube. This reinforcement offers up to 50% lighter in weight while the wires absorb stress more uniformly resulting in a stronger wire braid with less metal. Available in different tubing sizes and internal diameters in inches. They meet or exceed AS1339 performance requirements.

The AE546 series hoses feature an integral braided polyester chafe guard (manufactured by braiding polyester yarn onto existing hose styles) while those of  AE246 series come with an integral silicone firesleeve.

The AE446 and AE846 Series hoses are AE246 high pressure teflon hoses with an integral silicone asbestos free fire protection (sleeve), adhering directly onto the hose metal braid and end fittings to form a smooth, tight bond.

Common end fittings used with these hoses include CRES fittings of -3 to -12 thread size, flared (MS33656), flareless (MS33514) or BSP type offered in straight, 45 deg and 90 deg styles.

“Super Gem” Reusable Flared Fittings can also be used with these hoses. They consist of 3 pieces: a socket, sleeve and nipple assembly.Made from corrosion resistant materials elbow fittings are available in standard, 45°, and 90° styles. Mate with AS4395 and AS33514 end connections. These service proven flared fittings provide permanent protection against leakage, even after high temperature aging and pressure impulsing to 250,000 cycles or more. This is due to the separation of the sealing function from the retention function.

The AEROQUIP® hoses are priced and sold by the foot unless otherwise specified. Fittings can be separately purchased in pieces.

Additional information on DANFOSS EATON AEROQUIP® AE246/AE446/AE546/AE846 Series hoses is provided below.

EATON AEROQUIP® AE246 Hose

The  AE246 hose exceeds all requirements of MIL-H-38360 and has been tested successfully at 4000 psi for up to 600,000 cycles at 400°F. Offered to the aerospace industry with AEROQUIP® recommendation for use in normal 3000 psi hydraulic systems and selected 4000 psi hydraulic systems with impulse peaks up to 5000 psi. The AE246 Hose is 40 to 50% lighter in weight than previous high pressure Teflon hoses. It also has a much smaller envelope, is visibly smaller in diameter, and has excellent flexing and bend radius characteristics. AEROQUIP® Teflon hose has low volumetric expansion, assuring maximum response efficiency in ballistic election systems, brake systems, etc., where there can be no softness under shock load. Because the tube is smooth and homogeneous, it is able to withstand the high velocity, sudden pressure surges and temperature rises encountered in these systems. The rate of effusion of gases and resistance to capillary leakage of fluid through the hose lines is controlled by a patented extrusion method used to produce AEROQUIP® Teflon hose liners. Inherent resiliency and toughness are built into the extruded tube by close control of factors affecting crystallinity. The extruded tube has a tough, smooth, wax like texture which resists erosion. No materials of a sticky or viscous nature will stick to its surface. It has essentially zero moisture absorption, and this, together with its chemical inertness and anti-adhesive characteristics, make it ideal for missile fluid systems where maintenance of a low dew point is necessary.

AE246 Hose Shelf life

Service and shelf life of Aeroquip AE246 Teflon hose are unlimited for all practical purposes. However, experience has shown that service life on impulsing applications may eventually be limited by fatigue in the wire reinforcement. Maximum service life on such applications is best determined by the operator based on experience.

AE246 Hose Testing Procedures

AE246 Hose was thoroughly tested to meet or exceed the requirements of MIL-H 38360A (Amendment 1 for conductive hose). Tests were conducted at 4000 psi with 5000 psi surge peaks. Two varying levels of vibration were applied at one end while the other end was flexed for 300,000 cycles. Then the ends were reversed and the procedure repeated. Temperatures varied from room temperature to +4OO°F. The hose was also tested and met the requirements of all other conditions prescribed in this specification including aging tests and salt corrosion testing.

AE246 Hose Conductivity

AE246 Hose has a Teflon tube which is designed to eliminate electrostatically induced hose failures. The tube is capable of conducting a direct current equal to or greater than 6 micro-amps in sizes -4, -6 and -8; while in size -10 and -12 it will conduct a direct current equal to or greater than 12 micro-amps with a potential of 1,000 volts. AE246 Hose consists of a thin wall Teflon inner tube and a Hi-Pat outer braid consisting of densely packed small diameter stainless steel wires braided in a uniform pattern.

AE246 Hose Applications

AE246 Hose is ideal for hydraulic systems due to its capability to withstand high pressures, superior vibration resistance, low volumetric expansion and high temperature resistance. It is unaffected by fuels, lubricating oils, cool-ants or solvents commonly used in aircraft applications.

EATON AEROQUIP® AE546 Hose

The AE546 hose is a AE246 high pressure teflon hose with a blue polyester braided chafe guard, which provides superior chafe resistance and a flexibility that cannot be impaired. It adds minimal weight and only increases the hose OD by 0.100” for all sizes. The hose is compatible with the fluids: LD4, Highjet Chevron, Skydrol 500B4, JP-4 (MIL-T-5624), AvGass Grade 100/130 (MIL-C-5572), MIL-L-7808 Lube Oil, Varsol (Cleaning Solvent). Operating Temperatures -65F to +300F.

AE546 Hose Series Features:

Superior chafe-resistance

Compatible with aerospace associated fluids

Reduces overall weight

Minimal increase in O.D. – 100” for all sizes

Flexibility is not impaired

Temperature range  – 65°F to +300°F (-54°C to +149°C)

EATON AEROQUIP® AE446/AE846  Hoses

The AE446 and AE846 Series hoses are AE246 high pressure teflon hoses with an integral silicone asbestos free fire protection (sleeve), adhering directly onto the hose metal braid and end fittings to form a smooth, tight bond. This hose/fire protection cover is non-age sensitive for extra-long service life and does not impair the flexibility of the hose (same minimum bend radius as AE246) while providing an excellent chafe resistance. They feature exceptional hose flexibility, withstand pressures up to 3000 psi, have a smaller envelope for neater appearance and a temperature range from -65°F to +450°F (-54°C to +232°C). Meet the fire test requirements of TSO-C53a Type D and TSO-C75 Type III A and III B.
