(*) Diamond and Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) are both extensively used materials in tooling. Both are extremely hard. Diamond is a crystalline form of carbon. CBN doesn't exist in nature and is synthesized from boron and nitrogen. Generally, diamond is preferred for shaping extremely hard workpiece materials such as ceramics, carbides, stone and glass. CBN is better suited for applications generating high temperatures. TRIATIC diamond tools can be used with fiberglass, carbon, FRP, ceramics, carbide, quartz, marble/granite and other non-ferrous abrasion-resistant materials. High-Speed Steel (HSS) is a metal alloy made up primarily of iron, tungsten, and carbon. It's known for its hardness, toughness, and ability to withstand high temperatures without losing its strength or shape. It also has excellent abrasion resistance properties, which make it useful for cutting tools. HSS drill bits are extremely hardwearing and particularly well designed for drilling into relatively hard metal surfaces and wood, as they are much more resistant to the heat generated from the fast speed operation. The front edges cut the material, whilst the spirals remove debris from the hole. Apart from HSS, Cobalt is often used as an alloying agent in steels to improve the hardenability, strength, and wear resistance in machining applications but also due to its ability to resist wear at higher temperatures while still maintaining its strength and shape. Cobalt-based alloys are typically harder than HSS alloys but are also more prone to cracking or chipping if not handled properly. Compared to HSS drill bits which are more elastic and, as such, don't break easily, those containing cobalt are more brittle and chip quickly.

Hole saws are versatile cutting tools primarily used to create circular openings in various materials. They are often preferred over standard drill bits when there is a need to create larger diameter holes. Hole saws come in different materials and types.

Standard hole saws utilize a separate arbor (the part attaching to the drill) and a replaceable saw blade. Integral hole saws combine the arbor and saw blade into a single, non-detachable unit. ATS 7500 Aviation Piston Ring Compressor features a quick-change design to speed up piston ring installation.
