High speed steel (HSS) drill bits are extremely hardwearing and particularly well designed for drilling into metal surfaces, as they are much more resistant to the heat generated from the fast speed operation. TRIATIC INCORPORATED manufactures diamond and CBN (*) electroplated wheels, tools and other products for composite applications. They can be used for for applications in composites, fiberglass, ceramics, and other hard, abrasive materials. 

TRIATIC Diamond Countersinks are offered in various diameters and angles with or without slots and pilots, straight shanks or threaded shanks. The diamond coating is extremely tough and durable resulting in a tool with long life, reducing tool changes and unnecessary downtime. 

Their electroplated Diamond Coated Router Bits are available in a variety of sizes, with flat or round ends, with or without slots and coolant holes. The flat face is ideal for routing, slotting and trimming composites and other hard abrasive materials. The round end tools can be used to drill and form shapes. Slots enable quicker removal rates and improved clearance for deeper grinding. Coolant holes can be added for through coolant on the end of the tool and side ports.

TRIATIC also offers Diamond Saws, Circular, Hole & Jig. Their Saw Blades electroplated with 40/50 grit diamond are ideal for cutting off or slotting fiberglass and other fiber reinforced plastic and composite materials and alumina. Diamond hole saws cut more accurately, leave a smoother finish, and and last up to twice as long as carbide-grit-coated teeth. Electroplated diamond saw blades are for use on reinforced plastic, composites, stone, brick, and other abrasive materials with high silicon content. TRIATIC diamond saw blades are available with or without slots. Depending on the material, slots can help keep the diamond section free of loading, keeping the blade free cutting and cool. The diamond hole saws are unmounted but arbors are available if necessary.

(*) Diamond and Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) are both extensively used materials in tooling. Both are extremely hard. Diamond is a crystalline form of carbon. CBN doesn't exist in nature and is synthesized from boron and nitrogen. Generally, diamond is preferred for shaping extremely hard workpiece materials such as ceramics, carbides, stone and glass. CBN is better suited for applications generating high temperatures. TRIATIC diamond tools can be used with fiberglass, carbon, FRP, ceramics, carbide, quartz, marble/granite and other non-ferrous abrasion-resistant materials. CBN can be used with high speed tool steels, die steels, harden carbon steels, monel, inconel, rene, waspalloy and other hard ferrous superalloys.

Rivet Pin Gauges from HI-SHEAR CORPORATION,  subsidiary of LISI AEROSPACE, can be used for inspection or measurement of correct grip length of HI-LITE™ / HI-LOK™ rivet pins. Different HI-SHEAR Pin Protrusion Gauges are offered for respective HI-LITE™ / HI-LOK™series pins. HI-SHEAR Grip Gauge Assemblies can be used to measure the “grip length” of HI-LOK™ and HI-LITE™ pins, shear lockbolts, structural screws and bolts. The HI-SHEAR 2-651 Grip Gauge Assembly includes one HI-SHEAR 2-612 Grip Gauge & one HI-SHEAR 2-615 Grip Gauge Slide. The 2-612 Grip Gauge measures in increments 1/16” to 3”(1 mm to 75 mm). Made from spring temper stainless steel, 3/4" x 6-1/4".

Countersinking is used to ensure that flat head screws or fasteners sit flush against the workpiece. Countersinks used in aerospace and industrial applications are made of durable materials such as High Speed Steel (HSS) known for its hardness, toughness, and ability to withstand high temperatures. High Speed Steel (HSS) countersinks are well suited for cutting aluminum sheet metals. When combined with Cobalt, an alloying agent in steels to improve the hardenability, strength, and wear resistance in machining applications but also due to its ability to resist wear at higher temperatures, the  respective countersinks are often used for cutting stainless steel and other aluminum alloys.

Because of the difference in composition between HSS and Cobalt, main strengths of HSS countersinks are their high hardness and wear resistance. For higher hardenability, strength, and wear resistance and in applications when when countersinks are to be exposed to extremely high temperatures, cobalt countersinks should best be used.
