ARKWIN INDUSTRIES has been designing and manufacturing engine actuators for over 60 years for operation with fuel, engine oil and hydraulic oil pressurization. Their actuators are used on numerous civil, military, and industrial applications to provide actuation force to direct engine control components. They differ from conventional hydraulic actuators, a major difference being the incorporation of the fire resistance features necessary to meet engine safety requirements. Engine actuators are frequently exposed to elevated temperature during normal operation. If extended periods of flame resistance are required, protective coatings can be applied to the actuator housings including the use of intumescence or ablative coatings. Where temperature permits, ARKWIN uses aluminum alloys. For higher operating temperatures or pressure requirements exceeding the allowables of aluminum alloy, stainless PH steel alloys or titanium alloys can be provided. Two stage sealing is common for both static and dynamic seals. Specifically selected seal compounds allow zero external leakage, long durability life, high temperature resistance, while providing protection in fire.
ARKWIN’s engine actuators feature a high side load tolerance to ensure long piston life, high resistant wear plating, high reliability/low maintenance and fire resistance. Their key design characteristics include:
• Fuel and petroleum based operating fluids
• Operating pressures up to 4,000 psig
• Position feedback of the actuators is provided by integral or externally mounted LVDT’s.
• Multiple mounting options
• Servo valve applications (Control of actuators through external pressurization valving or through an integral electro hydraulic servo valve).
• Master/Slave configurations
ARKWIN’s engine actuators are offered for different platforms including:
CFM International CFM56-2/-3, CFM56-5/-7
General Electric CF34-3, CF34-8C/E, CF6, F110, F404, F414, LM2500, LM6000, TF34
ARKWIN EXCHANGE PROGRAM: ARKWIN’s commercial and industrial gas turbine engine actuator exchange program was developed for the CFM56-5/7, CF6-80C2, CF6-80E1, CF34-8C/E, LM2500, and LM6000 engines. The program provides operators the reliability of OEM NEW products at competitive prices. Qualifying actuators are exchanged in a very short time for FACTORY NEW OEM production units complete with FACTORY NEW OEM and a three-year/6000 EOH warranty. Manufactured to the highest standards, the Andair standard fuel selector range incorporates 1/4"(FS16), 3/8"(FS20) and the 1/2"(FS25) valves. These valves allow for multiple tank switching of one fuel line. Duplex fuel selectors are also offered (see separate product presentations). FS16, FS20 and FS25 series of fuel selectors are designed for safety, provide a precise and smooth feel in operation and come in different types, ranging from Type 1 ON/OFF shut off valves to valves with multiple positions. To prevent the pilot switching the wrong tank or turning the fuel off they feature a large red lever with 'Fuel' engraved on it and a clearly labelled fascia plate to indicate which tank has been selected. It allows for a good solid detent at each tank position and also the button on top of the lever must be raised to switch the fuel off.
FS20 series 3/8" fuel selectors provide a choice of lower and side fittings, and all units can be operated with an extension and universal joints. They come in the following types:
Type 1 (FS20-1): simple 3/8” ON/OFF shut off valve with 90 degrees action between the two positions. There are two ports and either port can be used as the inlet or outlet.
Type 2 (FS20-2): Three way 3/8” fuel selector with positions LEFT-RIGHT-OFF and a 90 degree action between each tank selection. No lower fitting for use where there is little space behind the valve.
Type 3 (FS20-3): three way selector with the positions LEFT - RIGHT - OFF. Generally used in low wing aircraft with a tank in each wing.
Type 4 (FS20-4): Designed for high wing aircraft, it has four lever positions OFF - LEFT - BOTH – RIGHT with a 90 degree action between each position. There are 3 ports. The lower port is the outlet to the engine and can be Male AN-6, Female 1/4NPT or a 360 degree Banjo adjustable fitting with a male AN-6 end.
Type 5 (FS20-5): 4 way Fuel Selector ( 3 tanks and OFF ) with positions LEFT - MAIN - RIGHT - OFF, each at 90 degree intervals.
Type 7 (FS20-7): Newest in the range 3 way fuel selector with positions LEFT - RIGHT - OFF. The inlets are at the 45 degree positions, to the LEFT and RIGHT, and the outlet is at the base of the valve. FS20-7 has been designed for centre consol mounting.
Type 8 (FS20-8): 5 way Fuel Selector ( 4 tanks and OFF ) with positions LEFT TIP - LEFT - RIGHT - RIGHT TIP - OFF, each at 72 degree intervals.

CONNTECT® produces and supplies combustion turbine fuel additives, compressor cleaners & wash systems and related products. CONNTECT® gas turbine compressor cleaners include CONNTECT® 5000, 6000, 7000 and CONNTECT® AF-100 anti-icing fluid for use with all CONNTECT® compressor cleaners. They are suitable for both ON LINE and OFF LINE use while ceaners can be injected directly into the compressor while the turbine is operating ON LINE extending periodic OFF LINE cleaning intervals and reducing average power loss. Available in 5-gallon pails, 55-gallon (208-liter) drums and 330-gallon re-usable and disposable bulk containers (totes).
CONNTECT® 5000 - concentrated water based gas turbine compressor cleaner specifically designed to remove deposits commonly found on gas turbine compressor blades.
CONNTECT® 6000 - concentrated non-toxic high performance low foam water based gas turbine compressor cleaner with cleaning efficiency similar to solvent-based cleaners.
CONNTECT® 7000 - concentrated solvent-based gas turbine compressor cleaner. The combination of non-ionic surfactants, emulsifiers and organic solvents is specifically designed to remove deposits commonly found on gas turbine compressor blades including carbonaceous deposits, oil, grease and soot. It should not be used undiluted.
The ash free ingredients in CONNTECT® cleaners have been carefully selected to ensure that no incremental trace elements can contribute to corrosion of the hot section of the gas turbine, while they contain special inhibitors to ensure compatibility with aluminum, nickel, nickel-cadmium, stainless steel, titanium and common coatings including painted surfaces and elastomers. They can be generally mixed at 1 part cleaner to 4 parts water but the method of injection and total amount of cleaning solution required differs for ON LINE and OFF LINE cleaning.
CONNTECT® AF-100 is a superior quality, specially designed propylene glycol based gas turbine anti-icing fluid for use with all CONNTECT® compressor cleaners. It is non-hazardous, non-toxic and biodegradable. High purity, ash free product insuring no incremental contamination of the hot section of the turbine. Depending upon the percentage of AF-100 used, the freezing temperature of the cleaning or rinsing solution can be reduced down to -22 deg. F (-30 deg. C). However, its viscosity increases significantly at cold temperatures should not be mixed with cleaner or water when the product is very cold.
