PPG AEROSPACE® Aircraft...

PPG Aerospace manufactures and provides a unique group of products including aircraft windshields and windows to the commercial, regional, military and general aviation segments, aircraft coatings and sealants for aircraft structures.

PPG AEROSPACE® wide range of primers, surfacers and fillers are designed to cover a broad set of needs. Extensive colour sets and different packings are offered, enabling enhanced productivity. These work with any kind of equipment, providing flexibility and ease of use.

PPG AEROSPACE® range of primers are always aligned with CMSs' most stringent requirements. They are designed to ensure an optimum repair finish but also durable mechanical performance to be able to resist heavy-duty usage in certain applications and include:

Etch Primers designed for excellent corrosion resistance and adhesive properties over metal substrates, such as steel, galvanised steel and aluminium.

Wet-on-Wet Primers for optimum process speed and excellent appearance.

Primer Surfacers and Fillers designed to achieve film build to fill scratches and provide a level surface. They provide a good gloss hold-out over a wide range of substrates including sound original paintwork, bare steel, polyester bodyfillers and etch primers.

Epoxy Primers dedicated to provide the best possible durability and corrosion resistance.

PPG AEROSPACE® Desothane® HS range of polyurethane and epoxy topcoats cover both civil aviation and military aircraft applications.

PPG AEROSPACE® Corrosion...

PPG AEROSPACE® Corrosion Inhibitive Aircraft Sealants & Jointing Compounds include different products offered in different packings.

PPG AEROSPACE® P/S (Pro Seal) 870 Corrosion Inhibitive Sealants are two-part, manganese dioxide cured polysulfide compounds.  They have a service temperature range from -65°F (-54°C) to 250°F (121°C), with intermittent excursions up to 275° (135°C). They act as an effective barrier against the common causes of corrosion on the aluminum alloys or between dissimilar metals. The cured sealant maintains elastomeric properties after limited exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas. Offered in A, B & C classes.

P/S 870 Class A uncured material is suitable for application by brush in thickness up to 25 mils. It cures at room temperatures to form a resilient sealant having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates. Supplied in two-part kits and Semco® cartridges.

P/S 870 Class B uncured material is a low sag, thixotropic paste suitable for application by extrusion gun or spatula. It cures at room temperature to form a resilient sealant having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates. Available in two-part kits or Semkit® cartridges.

P/S 870 Class C uncured material is designed for roller and faying surface sealing applications. It cures at room temperature to form a resilient sealant having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates. Available in two-part kits and Semco® cartridges.

PPG AEROSPACE® Proseal P/S 890 Class A and B are aircraft integral fuel tank sealants. They have a service temperature range from -65°F (-54°C) to 250°F (121°C), with intermittent excursions up to 275°F (135°C). Proseal P/S 890 Class A is designed for brush and fay sealing of fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselge sealing applications. Proseal P/S 890 Class B  is designed for fillet sealing of fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications. The cured sealants maintain excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas.  Both are two-part, manganese dioxide cured polysulfide compounds. In the case of Proseal P/S 890 Class A, the uncured material is suitable for applicaiton by brush in thickness up to 25 mils. In the case of Proseal P/S 890 Class B, the uncured material is a low sag, thixotropic paste suitable for application by extrusion gun or spatula. Both cure at room temperature to form a resilient sealant having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates. PPG AEROSPACE® Proseal P/S 890 Class A and B  sealants are supplied in two-part kits and Semco® cartridges.

PPG AEROSPACE® JC5A Corrosion Inhibitive Jointing Compound is a versatile one-part, non-curing compound designed specifically for the aviation industry. Engineered to prevent corrosion and moisture ingress, JC5A is ideal for safeguarding removable fasteners and assemblies.

PPG AEROSPACE® Fuel Tank...

For more than 50 years, PPG AEROSPACE® – PRC-DeSoto® has been a leader in the development of products fundamental to aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, and repair. The company manufactures and provides a unique group of products including aircraft windshields and windows to the commercial, regional, military and general aviation segments as well as aircraft primers, coatings and sealants for aircraft structures used in aviation and milirary applications. In addition, high performance Industrial Adhesives and Sealants  are also offered to provide protection from fuel and petroleum exposure as well as sealants for Telecom and Utility applications.

PPG AEROSPACE® – PRC-DeSoto® products are offered in different classes, specifications, application times and convenient container options including SEMCO Semkit® packages containing both the base and accelerator in one pack.

3 classes are generally used for the classification of sealants (A, B and C) although an S class does apply in some cases where a sealant can be sprayed.

Class A – Brush application, generally used on fasteners

Class B – Thicker consistency, used for fillet and injection seals

Class C – Thinner than Class B, used for fay sealing

Application times are expressed in hours (2 indicating 2 hours 1/2 indicating half an hour).

Aircraft Fuel Tank Sealants are included in this presentation while respective Aircraft Fuselage, Firewall Sealants and Corrosion Inhibitive Sealants and Coatings are separately presented.
