Honed tubes/pipes, also known as  hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder tubing because of their primary uses for their production or repair, are tubes with their inside diameter either honed or skived & roller burnished resulting in extremely precise inside diameter (ID) dimensions and smoothly ID surfaces. Honing is an abrasive machining process involving the use of abrasive polishing stones and abrasive paper to remove small amounts of material and improve surface geometry and surface texture.The manufacturing process is determined upon the tube dimension, mold availability and customer ewquirements. Honed tubing is used in applications where a high precise inside diameter dimension and a smooth inside surface are required.

As honed tubes are the most important materials for manufacturing and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, the quality of the honed tube is of critical importance. Steel honed tubing is mostly applied for making and repairing hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic cylinders. They are ready to use as hydraulic cylinder tubes without any further inside diameter machining. Steel honed tubes are produced from steel cold drawn seamless tubes (CDS tubes) and feature high precision, good surface roughness and good surface roughness. A popular material of steel honed tubes is carbon steel grade SAE 1020. Metric steel tubes are offered in inner diameters from 32 mm to 500 mm  and lengths up to 12000 mm. 

Stainless steel honed tubing is widely used  in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders in the food and food processing industries, sewage and water treatment factories, ships and marine equipment, pharmaceutical industry, risers for oil platforms and pipelines facilities, and other uses. They feature high precision I.D. tolerance (H8, H9 or H10), high tensile strength and yield strength, strong corrosion resistance and durability. Commonly produced from cold drawn stainless steel 304 /304L or stainless steel 316/316L tubes. Depending on the producer, they can be supplied in O.D. sizes from 32 mm to 609 mm. 

Aluminum honed tubes are offered as hard anodized/ mill finished, in different aluminum grades (6061, 6063, etc.), tempers (T5, T6), inner diameters, wall thicknesses and lengths  while they can be provided with rust-proof oil coating on the inner and outer surfaces. Their key features include high strength, strong wind pressure resistance, good sealing effect and waterproofness. Aluminum honed tubes and pipes are used in oil, telecom, power plants, general engineering purposes, electrical industries and various other hydraulic applications.
