UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of aerospace and defense products, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. The company was formed in August 2012 when parent United Technologies Corporation merged their existing subsidiary Hamilton Sundstrand with the newly-acquired Goodrich Corporation, formerly B.F. Goodrich Company. In 2018, UTC acquired Rockwell Collins which was merged to form Collins Aerospace.

The Goodrich Corporation wheels and brakes are in use on more than two hundred commercial and military aircraft worldwide. Goodrich products include electric and hydraulically actuated brakes with steel or carbon friction material, brake control systems, tire pressure monitoring systems and brake temperature monitoring systems. In 1988, the Goodrich Corporation sold its tire business and rights to the Goodrich name to French company Michelin.

Aircraft wheels and braking systems serve a vital function during takeoff, landing and taxiing. As aircraft brakes convert the kinetic energy of the moving airplane to heat energy, they are also referred to as Heat Packs made of steel or carbon fibres. Conventional metal (steel) brakes are gradually replaced by carbon brakes (particularly on larger, long-haul commercial airplanes) due to their higher efficiency in braking applications, lower weight and resulting less fuel consumption and lower CO2 emission by the engines.
