BALL LOK® Quick Release Pins

BALL LOK® Quick Release Pins and fastening devices working on the principle of locking balls. They come in a variety of materials and designs including:

- Single Acting Quick Release Pins, positive locking pins requiring a push of the button to release the balls.

- Double Acting Quick Release Pins, positive locking Ball-Lok® Quick Release Pins requiring a push or pull of the button to release the balls.

- Detent Pins,  Quick Release Pins offering a non-positive lock that simply pushes in and pulls out of the application. Spring loaded balls perform impedance locking.

- Marine Pins, single acting and detent type Ball-Lok® Quick Release Pins specifically designed for the marine industry. Non-corrosive stainless steel as construction material and easy to use designs make these pins ideal for all types of marine applications.

- Alignment Pins bused on doors and racks and panel assemblies to align connector contacts, eliminate shear load damage to contacts and door assemblies, and to guide doors and panels to their proper position. Pins are available in both straight and eccentric designs.

- Metric Pins, same as their standard (in.) Ball-Lok® Quick Release Pin designs in metric sizes.

- Receptacles providing locking for their Single Acting Ball-Lok® Quick Release Pins in blind applications and other applications when the parent material needs a hardened surface for the balls to lock against. A spring loaded plunger fills the hole preventing contamination when the quick release pin is not engaged. Receptacles can be riveted, threaded, or potted in place.

- Attachments including lanyard and chain assemblies which can be connected to quick release pins to keep the pins permanently attached to the application. Warning Streamers are used with quick release pins in critical applications.

Latches & Keeper Assemblies

Avibank is a major manufacturer of latches and latching devices used in a variety of applications, from structural aircraft closures to computer access doors, to electronic cabinet RFI tension take-up devices.

Latch designs come in a multitude of materials, configurations, and strength capabilities.

- Hook Latches in a wide variety of configurations ranging from flat to contoured, protruding to low profile with variable load requirement. Adjustable hooks or keepers compensate for wear and adjust latch preload. Standard designs are able to withstand up to 15,000 lbs. ultimate tension load. Latches have a trigger as a secondary locking feature in addition to the primary over-the-center hook mechanism. Some latches have secondary safety features that allow the handle to be closed only when the latch is engaged with the mating keeper.

- Flush & Push Button Latches available in many styles. They operate with a push, pull or slide trigger release. Flushness with the parent material prevents snagging or drag. Bolt offset can be adjusted for different panel thickness.

- Shear Pin & Slide Bolt Latches designed to carry shear type loads. They can be operated by sliding the pin or bolt in or out of the load-carrying area or receptacle. The pin angle can be adjusted to align with mating hole in the structure. Micro switches can be added as a visual indicator that the latch is locked or unlocked. On large panels, shear pin latches are usually used in conjunction with hook latches.

- Pawl Latches using a cam action to not only lock a door but also to take-up and compress the door gasket preventing electromagnetic interference.

- Over-the-Center & V-Band Latches available in various styles for cases, boxes and crates. The V-band latches incorporate folding handles that allow for a mechanical advantage during closing. They produce high preload with long handle leverage. The T-bolt is adjustable for proper preload or engagement. A secondary safety feature allows the handle to close only when the latch is engaged with mating keeper.

- Pressure Relief Latches normally used on engine cowls. They automatically release under a pre-determined load to release pressure on the cowling. Actuate with a standard screw driver. Pre-set loads at the factory to handle precise loads within +/- 10% of load tolerance. Latches allow bleed-off of excessive pressures to prevent damage to vital internal hardware.

- Folding Handles intended for use on electronic boxes and drawers. They fold out of the way after installation. They are also used as a carrying handle when the box or drawer is removed. The handle is able to withstand high side load in case of mishandling or accident and may have up to three positive locking positons.

- Chassis Latches & Keepers used on electronic doors, drawers and black boxes. They combine the hold-down feature with the need to have a carrying handle. Some can be removed during flight. Keepers with different combinations of load and compensating travel are available.

- Rotary Latches flush mounted and usually actuated with a tool. The internal eccentric cam design allows tension take-up. A warning flag indicates whether the latch is locked or unlocked.

- Overhead Baggage Rack Latches used on commercial aircraft to open and close baggage compartments. Various materials, including plastic, are available. Some overhead bin latches have interlock system with hook design to withstand high loads and vibration. These latches provide passengers a storage compartment that is easy to open and secures tightly to prevent opening during flights.

Keepers

Adjustable or non-adjustable keepers or eyebolts are mated with a hook or a rotary latch. These keepers are adjusted to apply the correct preload. Adjustable keepers can be adjusted to provide tension load to the latch while it is still engaged. Slotted holes in the mounting plate allow for adjustment. Special keeper housings are available for mounting.

Hinges

Gooseneck hinges open doors out of the way. Various style spring-loaded plates are available to allow access to areas that require inspection.

Self-Retaining Bolts & Nuts

Self-Retaining Bolts are fail-safe shear bolts for use in dynamic joint assemblies such as control linkages for flight surfaces, engine mechanisms, and fuel systems. Avibank produces self-retaining bolts in any shear bolt style as well as in adjustable diameter configurations. Nuts for self-retaining bolts are available in a wide variety of designs and materials, with or without scallops which prevent backing off of the nut. Due to the locking elements, most self-retaining bolts require counter-bored nuts or spacers. Avibank manufactures various spacer designs, which eliminates the requirement of using a special nut. Avibank offers multiple bolt and nut designs including:

- Positive Lock - Protruding Head Bolts requiring the insertion of a tool to depress the plunger which releases the locking elements. The protruding head design rises above the surface of the structure for easy access and installation. Made to MS3369, MS21130, MS21125 and MS18115. Conforms to MIL-B-23964.

Positive Lock - Flush Head Bolts which also require the insertion of a tool to depress the plunger which releases the locking elements. The flush head design is ideal for aerodynamic applications that require a smooth flush surface. Made to MS3369, MS21130, MS21125 and MS18115. Conforms to MIL-B-23964.

- Impedance Type Bolts producing a detent effect with spring loaded balls. Made to MS27576, and MS27577. Conform to MIL-B-83050.

- Thread End Release - Pawl Bolts offering a self-locking feature in an extended area beyond the thread. This allows a solid shank through the grip and tensile stress area resulting in the same loads as a standard bolt but with the added safety feature of the self-locking element.

- Thread End Release - Button Bolts offer a self-locking feature in an extended area beyond the thread. This allows a solid shank through the grip and tensile stress area resulting in the same loads as a standard bolt but with the added safety feature of the self-locking element.

- Self Retaining Nuts  available in a wide variety of designs and materials, with or without scallops which prevent backing off of the nut. Due to the locking elements, most self-retaining bolts require counter-bored nuts or spacers. Avibank manufactures various spacer designs which eliminates the requirement of using a special nut.

- Self Retaining Adjustable Diameter Bolts offering a positive lock and expanding elements that eliminate or reduce wear due to vibration. They provide shear strength comparable to a solid bolt and when properly installed the bolt provides high tensile strength.

- Self Retaining Adjustable Diameter Bolt - Captive Nut with a positive lock and expanding elements that eliminate or reduce wear due to vibration. This bolt allows one end installation. The nut is captive to the core bolt so it can not come off from the bolt.

Struts & Hold Open Rods

Avibank product range includes a variety of struts and hold open rods outlined below:

- Small and large Telescoping Struts, which collapse inside of themselves. They can be automatically or manually locked in open, closed, or intermediate positions. Some designs allow for automatic or manual secondary locking safety features.

- Scissor/Folding Struts folding  inside of a compartment when closed and scissor open to automatically lock in a specified position. Optional exterior sleeves provide extra strength in the open position.

- Fixed Length Struts primarily used as support rods and as push-pull rods for controls. Smaller versions are commonly called "turnbuckles".

- End fittings for all of their Struts/Hold-Open Rods but also custom designed end fittings that meet unique customer specifications.

Adjustable Diameter Fasteners

- Adjustable Diameter Pins incorporate expanding segments which completely fill the hole, resulting in zero clearance. The tight radial fit results in high tensile and shear strength capabilities. The cam handle allows for quick installation and removal of the pin; and to avoid inadvertent release, an automatic locking handle version is available.

- Adjustable Diameter Bolts with a high clamp-up capability. The shear strength is comparable to a solid bolt. Even though the bolt completely fills the hole, it is easily removed without special tools.

- Adjustable Diameter Blind Bolts easily installed and removed from one side only. Two or more mating structures can be clamped up, while at the same time, the hole is filled, and the parts are aligned.

- Adjustable Diameter Specials developed to be used in critical applications such as Helicopter Blade Attachments and as Engine Mount Pins & Bolts.

Structural Panel Fasteners

Avibank line of Structural Panel Fasteners include:

- E-Nut® Fastening System. The New E-Nut® Fastening System is a self-expanding, self-aligning, and rapidly removable top-down fastening system that replaces riveted and rivet-less nut plates. This new design accommodates multiple grip lengths and allows for angular misalignment. The E-Nut® Fastening System can be installed in composite, aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium structures.

- Externally Threaded Panel Fastener. The "ET" Fastening System offers a unique internal ring design that features an internal captivated non-exposed retaining ring that eliminates retaining ring damage during installation of the stud-bolt in the panel and during engagement of the stud-bolt with the receptacle. The stud-bolt holdout feature allows for easy panel installation on both curved and flat surfaces. Used on metal or composite access panels.

- Internally Threaded Panel Fastener. The "IT" Fastening System offers an internal thread design with dual lead threads that features an internal captivated non-exposed retaining ring that eliminates retaining ring damage during installation. The grommet eliminates wear and elongation of the panel hole. Used on metal or composite access panels.

- Ring Type Panel Fastener. The "RT" Fastening System has a stud-bolt with external dual threads to speed up operation. The three pronged retaining washer provides high load capabilities and proper orientation during installation and removal. The unique grommet design helps to eliminate wear and elongation of the fastener holes in either metallic or composite type panels.

- Tapered Shank Panel Fasteners. The "MT" Fastening System has a tapered shank with internal dual lead threads for quick installation. The tapered shank improves alignment capabilities and minimizes hole wear. The internally threaded sleeve bolt eliminates damage to the sleeve bolt threads or panel during installation.

- Positive Lock Panel Fastener. The AVILOK® Fastening System offers a unique ratchet design using quad lead threads that provide quick installation and removal while at the same time has a positive lock. Multiple springs in the receptacle assure against accidental release under high vibration.

- Expanding Panel Fastener. The "CF" Panel Fastening System offers both radial and axial clamp-up in one simple operation. During the installation, the fastener expands in the substructure hole and induces radial forces of a predetermined magnitude on the walls of the substructure hole. Complete expansion into the substructure hole ensures proper structural loading between the door panel and the substructure.
