LOCTITE® SF 7471 / SF 7649 Activators
LOCTITE® SF 7471 and SF 7649 (known as LOCTITE® 7471™ and 7649™ respectively) are anaerobic primers designed to increase the speed of cure of LOCTITE® anaerobic adhesives and sealants. Both are especially recommended for applications with passive metals or inert surfaces, with large bond gaps and when prevailing temperature is low. The LOCTITE® 7471 transparent, yellowish-amber liquid activator is applied to the bond area before the anaerobic adhesive. It can be used with most LOCTITE® anaerobic products, such as thread lockers, thread sealants, retaining compounds, and gasketing materials. LOCTITE® 7649 is a solvent-based activator sprayed or brushed onto the bond area before the application of the anaerobic adhesive. It reduces the curing speed of LOCTITE® anaerobic products such as thread lockers, thread sealants, retaining compounds, and gasketing materials by up to 90% without any significant loss of joint strength. It enhances performance and reliability and offers good performance at low temperatures (<15 °C). Both 7471 and 7649 have a limited shelf life, may cause skin or eye irritation, may not be compatible with some plastics or rubbers while 7649 may in addition have a strong odor.
