CHEMETALL® ARDROX® brand is the leading brand for aerospace surface solutions including paint and scale removers, exterior aircraft & gas turbine engine compressor cleaners, corrosion inhibiting and non-destructive testing protective compounds for both aircraft and aero engines and materials.
CHEMETALL® ARDROX® Corrosion Inhibiting Compounds' (CIC) range includes AV 8, AV 15 (aka DINITROL AV15), general purpose AV 25, the most versatile AV 30 and AV 40. They are water displacing, long-term corrosion inhibitors highly penetrating areas exposed to severe corrosion conditions and combining good penetration properties with excellent corrosion inhibiting characteristics and a low applied film weight. Their viscosity is optimised to ensure an effective protective coating and promote penetration into otherwise inaccessible areas of the airframe. Applied as a coating to protect metals in airframe structures, on painted and unpainted surfaces, and in aerospace components to safeguard metals from corrosion:
- by dipping, brushing or spraying, recommended for maximum penetration capability and most effective corrosion inhibiting performance.
- as a spray using either the specifically designed ACS - System (airmix application equipment), or the AAS - System (airless application equipment) in accordance with CHEMETALL® operating instructions.
In areas exposed to severe corrosion conditions AV 8 should be overcoated with AV 100D - a heavy duty, waxy, firm film CIC.
Movable parts should be masked before treatment unless spray application can be controlled to prevent direct contact. If spray control or masking of movable components is not possible, then AV 25, a soft waxy film CIC, should be used. The latter is designed for use on pulleys, control cables and other movable components.
CHEMETALL® ARDROX® Corrosion Inhibiting Compounds' (CIC) meet military specifications, i.e. United States Defense standard used to describe a product that meets specific performance and manufacturing standards. These standards are used for for equipment and chemicals. MIL-PRF-16173 (*) covers solvent-dispersed corrosion preventive compounds that deposit thin, easily removable films after evaporation of solvent.
CHEMETALL ARDROX® corrosion inhibitors are offered in different packaging options and comply with different specifications including Boeing BMS, MIL-PRF-16173, McDonnell Douglas DMS, Airbus AIMS and others.
CHEMETALL ARDROX® 3140 Corrosion Preventative contains film forming agents, antioxidants and corrosion inhibitors in a refined hydrocarbon solvent base. Provides long term protection for raw materials, sub-assemblies and finished components, which are to be stored or used in corrosive environments.
CHEMETALL ARDROX® corrosion inhibitors and preventives are classified as HAZMAT Hazardous Materials UN Number: UN1139 - UN Class: 3. Hazmat packaging & certification required.
CHEMETALL ARDROX® 5502, 5503 & 5504 solvent cleaners are intended for use as a general industrial solvent cleaners for oils and greases. They are clear, colorless, mobile solvent cleaners with different flash points and volatility. They meet the requirements of the MIL-PRF-680. These cleaners may be used by any of the conventional methods such as spraying, dipping or brushing. Soak tanks should be constructed with a lid in order to minimize solvent losses by evaporation.
CHEMETALL ARDROX® 6367 Turbine Engine Cleaner is a liquid concentrate which consists of an aqueous blend of biodegradable surfactants and corrosion inhibitors formulated to clean the compressor sections of gas turbine engines. It is solvent free and removes deposits, oils and their oxidation products in the compressor area. Contains corrosion inhibitors providing protection against corrosion for up to 3 days during engine standstill times. Does not contain any EDTA, NTA or their salts. Regular cleaning with Ardrox® 6367 helps maintain peak engine efficiency and reduces maintenance and fuel cost. Ardrox® 6367 is compatible with recognized antifreeze materials used during cold weather cleaning. Approved for use in a range of turbine engines including CFM56 CP5060 , GE SPM 70-80-04, Ref. C04-140, P&W SPM 70-12-00, SPMC 87-10A, Rolls Royce CSS 260 and others. Offered in different packaging options including 25-liter pails and 55 USG drums.

(*) Note: Chemicals in MIL-PRF-16173 standard come in the following Grades:
Grade 1: Hard film. used for (a) protection of metals when exposed for extended periods to outdoor weather conditions and (b) general purpose preservation, indoor or outdoor, with or without cover, for domestic and overseas shipment where a dry-totouch film is required.
Grade 2: Soft film, used for (a) extended indoor prn~P~rinn nF inrPrinr nr PYrPrinr ~11rF~rP~ nF machinery, instruments, bearings or materials with or without use of supplementary barrier materials and (b) outdoor protection of material for limited periods where metal
temperatures do nut reach levels that produce prohibitive flow of the corrosion preventive film.
Grade 3: Soft film - water displacing. These CICs are intended for use (a) in cases where water ~r saline solution must be displaced from corrodible surfaces and the corrosion prevented or arrested, (b) for protection of metallic surfaces of machinery interior instruments,
or parts under cover for limited periods and (c) for the protection of critical bare steel or phosphated surfaces for extended periods when packaged with suitable barrier materials.
Grade 4: Soft film - water displacing suitable for (a) general purpose indoor and limited outdoor preservation of corrodible metals with or without an overwrap and where handling, stacking and counting requires a tack-free coating, (b) storage protection of precision parts, machine tools, pistons, va!ves, and where a transparent coating is required in addition to properties indicated in item (a) above, (c) protection of machinery and parts designated for export and where salt spray contamination is likely to occur, and (d) where there is not requirement for miscibility with lubricating oil and.where ease of removal with stoddard's solvent (P-D-680) is important.
Grade 5: Oily film - low pressure steam removable. For use on metal(s) which may be attacked by an alkaline treatment during the preservative removal stage. The chemical "bell-out" is alkaline and its use should be avoided with such materials as aluminum and magnesium alloys.
Corrosion Inhibiting Compounds' (CIC) of MIL-C-16173E specification can be used in place of grade 3 corrosion preventive compound where chemical boil-out cannot be used for removal.
