Aviation greases are lubricants, with a thickening agent dispersed within them. They’re used on various aircraft components inhibiting corrosion and lubricating load carrying components and/or those operating under extreme temperatures to prevent wear.
The AEROSHELL® range of aviation greases, both mineral and synthetic, are multi-functional to reduce costs and improve maintenance efficiency.
AEROSHELL® Greases No. 5 and 6 are microgel thickened with mineral oil base. No 5 combines high load-carrying ability with excellent resistance to water and high temperatures. Used primarily in aircraft wheel bearings and engine accessories operating at high speeds and relatively high temperatures. Meets MIL-G-3545C. No 6, MIL-PRF-24139A approved, is a general purpose airframe grease, featuring outstanding low temperature torque properties and resistance to water. Used primarily in plain and anti-friction bearings on general aviation aircraft. No 14 is a leading helicopter multi-purpose calcium soap thickened, mineral grease inhibiting corrosion and oxidation due to special anti-rust additives. Widely used as a general purpose helicopter grease. Meets MIL-G-25537C.
AEROSHELL® synthetic greases include:
No 7, an advanced multipurpose airframe MIL-PRF-23827C approved grease and No 22, a versatile multipurpose MIL-PRF-81322G approved grease, microgel thickened with synthetic diester and synthetic hydrocarbon oil base respectively. Both are corrosion inhibited and fortified against oxidation. No 7 is recommended for highly loaded gears and actuator screw mechanisms, as well as for instrument and general airframe lubrication. No 22 is recommended for aircraft wheel bearings, engine accessories and airframe lubrication, and for anti-friction bearings operating at high speeds and at high or low temperatures.
No 33, a MIL-PRF-23827C Type 1 approved universal airframe grease with a synthetic hydrocarbon/ester oil base and No. 58, advanced wheel bearing grease follow the industry drive for lithium thickened greases. No. 33 was developed to satisfy almost all airframe lubrication requirements with a single grease. Its enhanced corrosion resistance and load-carrying capacity reduces wear and tear and can lead to extension of re-greasing intervals and reduction in maintenance costs. No 64, is an extreme pressure (EP) MIL-G-21164D compliant airframe grease containing molybdenum disulfide extends component life through its exceptional load-carrying and EP properties. Fully compatible with No 33, both can protect over 98% of the grease application points on a typical airliner.
Brief Presentations of AEROSHELL® Mineral & Synthetic Aviation Greases
AEROSHELL® Grease 5 is a mineral grease for aircraft intended for use as wheel bearing and engine accessory grease. Microgel thickened, mineral oil base. Combines high load-carrying ability with excellent resistance to water and high temperatures. It inhibited against corrosion and oxidation, and has a useful temperature range of -23°C to + 177°C. Used primarily in aircraft wheel bearings and engine accessories operating at high speeds and relatively high temperatures. U.S. Approved MIL-G-3545C.
AEROSHELL® Grease 6 is a general purpose airframe grease, microgel thickened with mineral oil base. Inhibited against corrosion and oxidation, it features outstanding low temperature torque properties and resistance to water. Useful temperature range of -40°C to +121°C. Used primarily in plain and anti-friction bearings on general aviation aircraft. U.S. Approved MIL-PRF-24139A.
AEROSHELL® Grease 7 is an advanced synthetic multipurpose airframe grease, microgel thickened with synthetic diester oil base. Corrosion inhibited and fortified to resist oxidation, it combines excellent load-carrying capacity with a useful temperature range of -73°C to + 149°C. Recommended for highly loaded gears and actuator screw mechanisms, as well as for instrument and general airframe lubrication. U.S. Approved MIL-PRF-23827C.
AEROSHELL® Grease 14 is a leading helicopter multi-purpose mineral grease approved by all helicopter manufacturers. Calcium soap thickened, mineral oil base. Inhibited against corrosion and oxidation, it is compounded with special anti-rust additives, and gives outstanding protection against fretting and moisture corrosion. Base oil viscosity mm2 @ 40°C - 12.5 @ 100°C - 3.1. Useful temperature range is -54°C to +93°C. Approved by all leading helicopter manufacturers. Recommended for most helicopter main and tail rotor bearings; widely used as a general purpose helicopter grease. U.S. Approved MIL-G-25537C, British Approved DEF STAN 91-51.
AEROSHELL® Grease 22 is a synthetic versatile multipurpose grease for aircraft, microgel thickened with synthetic hydrocarbon oil base. Corrosion inhibited and fortified against oxidation, it has excellent anti-wear properties, load-carrying capacity and water resistance, plus a wide useful temperature range of -65°C to +240°C. Recommended for aircraft wheel bearings, engine accessories and airframe lubrication, and for anti-friction bearings operating at high speeds and at high or low temperatures. U.S. Approved MIL-PRF-81322G.
AEROSHELL® Grease 33 is a synthetic lithium complex universal airframe grease with a synthetic hydrocarbon/ester oil base. Developed with the purpose of satisfying almost all airframe lubrication requirements with a single grease. Its enhanced corrosion resistance and load-carrying capacity reduces wear and tear and can lead to extension of re-greasing intervals and reduction in maintenance costs. Replacing several greases with a single grease avoids the risk of misapplication and also reduces stock inventory, again providing cost savings. Useful temperature range is -73°C to +121°C. U.S. Approved MIL-PRF-23827C Type 1.
AEROSHELL® Grease 58 (ASG58) is an advanced wheel bearing grease. It follows the industry drive for lithium complex thickened grease. ASG58 is built on proven AeroShell Grease 33 technology, exceeding the demanding specification of SAE AMS 3058. It has superior mechanical stability, water washout resistance and corrosion protection. ASG58 performs well in the EMCOR test against salt water and modern day runway de-icing fluid.
