Delivering high strength controlled preloaded system, the HI-LOK rivet pins by HI-SHEAR CORPORATION, subsidiary of LISI AEROSPACE, are the original and versatile solution for strong and reliable assemblies. These rivet pins are easily installed from one side, by one person, quietly, even is most restricted areas. With a wide range of shapes, materials and coatings, they are suited for most of structural assemblies and are still commonly used in the aerospace industry. They can also be replaced by equivalent HI-LITE rivet pins, the direct evolution of HI-LOK series, for improved weight saving. The latter can be used for clearance, or low interference fit throughout aircraft, from wings to fuselage, in engine fairings, and more. Combined with HI-LITE nuts and collars, they provide up to 13% weight saving compared to the previous HI-LOK generation. Both HI-LOK and HI-LITE rivet pins are also available with ASTER improved recess (HSTR pins) that prevents failure during the assembly process, especially suited for clearance fit assemblies of composite structures.
The HI-LOK fasteners from HI-SHEAR CORPORATION, subsidiary of LISI AEROSPACE, are the second most used fasteners in aircraft structural assembly after the solid rivets MS20470 and MS20426. The HI-LOK fastener system includes a rivet pin (similar to a screw but with additional advantages) and a collar (similar to a nut). The main reasons/benefits of using this type of fasteners include:
1. Higher tension and shear strength, the material used and the geometry of the fastener provides the best properties regarding strength. Suitable for shear and/or tension applications, on plain or sloped surfaces
2. Lightweight fasteners, the HI-LOK system offers the best relation between weight and strength regarding the assembly between two elements. Better that the use of screws and nuts.
3. Easy and quick assembly, with the specific tools the assembly time is must lower that the rivet or screws/nut assembly time. The assembly is very easy with no complex steps and the final assembly is always perfect with no defects. Suitable for clearance, transition and low interference fit installation.
4. Good stress concentration factor, the specific geometry of the pin element provides the hole with an increase in fatigue life, much better that if we use the screw/nut system.
5. Fastener cost, accessible and cost effective element in the installation on the aircraft.
6. Correct torque application, the collar property gives us the guaranty that the correct torque is applied to the assembly, removing the problem of vibration, strength and fatigue of the pin itself.
7. Wide variety of materials and coatings for installation in all structures.
Delivering high strength controlled preloaded system, the HI-SHEAR HI-LOK rivet pins are the original and versatile solution for strong and reliable assemblies. With a wide range of shapes, materials and coatings, they are suited for most of structural assemblies and are still commonly used in the aerospace industry. There are several type of rivet pins and several type of collars, depending of the desired application with the HL18, HL19, HL20 and HL21 series being the most used ones. The HI-LOK rivet pins can be divided for use in tension and shear applications. The tension rivet pins, with greater heads than the shear pins, are selected when the main load applied is tension while the shear rivet pins when the shear is the dominant load. Rivet pins can be further divided in those with protruding or countersunk head. For example, the HL18 series realte to shear protruding hed rivet pins, the HL20 are tension protruding head rivet pins, the HL19 are shear countersunk head rivet pins and the HL 21 are countersunk head pins.
Th HI-LOK series rivet pins can also be replaced by equivalent HI-LITE rivet pins, the direct evolution of HI-LOK rivet pins, for improved weight saving. The latter can be used for clearance, or low interference fit throughout aircraft, from wings to fuselage, in engine fairings, and more. Combined with HI-LITE nuts and collars, they provide up to 13% weight saving compared to the previous HI-LOK generation. Both HI-LOK and HI-LITE rivet pins are also available with ASTER recess (HSTR pins) for an improved recess that prevents failure during the assembly process, especially suited for clearance fit assemblies of composite structures.
The HI-LOK P/N for rivet pins is specified by the sequencing letters and numbers: e.g. HL18PB-5-16. The HL letters specify a Hi-lok fastener, the number 18 determines the geometry and material of the fastener, the letter PB defines the finish protection of the fastener, the -5 number defines the diameter of the fastener per multiples of 32in. ( diameter =5/32 =0,156 in) and the -16 defines the grip length of the fastener per multiples of 16 in. (length = 16/16= 1 in).

C-Spec 4000 series grommets (Camloc® compatible) from MILSPEC PRODUCTS form part of C-Spec 4000 Series Quick Release Fastening System. Grommet retainers are simple snap rings that keep the grommet and the fastener in the panel when unlocked. Various styles are available, primarily in stainless steel. The R4GS retainer is recommended for most applications. A high shear retainer (P/N R4T) is also available. It is slightly thicker and retains the grommet more tightly to the outer panel. Large area retainers and re-enforcement washers are for worn or oversized holes. Retaining rings require specific tooling for installation.

AN hex head bolts in different series are offered under AVIATIONEU NEW ERA product series. Sourced from quality vendors, these bolts are manufactured to the US Army-Navy (AN) standard, predecessor to Mil-Spec (MS), superseded by the National Aerospace Standard (NAS). Commonly used in aviation for either tensile/shear load applications. Made from high-strength type 4037 or 8740 alloy steel or 431 Stainless Steel (CRES) and cadmium plated for superior corrosion resistance (compared to commercial grade zinc plated bolts) they are offered with shank drilled for cotter pin or undrilled for stop nut application, and with a drilled head for safety wire or without. Minimum Tensile Strength (Steel and CRES) - 125,000psi. The length of AN aircraft bolts is measured from under the head to the end of the shank. The "grip" is the unthreaded portion of the shank. Threads are pressed into the steel, not cut, thus maintaining strength throughout the entire shank. The surface under the head of AN bolts is designed to be a bearing surface to reduce non-uniform stress as the bolt is torqued thus reducing premature fatigue. AN3 through AN20 Series bolts are superseded by NASM3 through 20 Series. The part numbers in both series have not been changed. The following letters are used in the product part numbers.
"A" after the dash number for bolts with undrilled shank
"C" for bolts made of 431 Stainless Steel (CRES)
"H" after the AN number for bolts with drilled head (eg. AN10H-15)
AN10 bolts have a 5/8-18 thread with a 5/8" shank diameter. All AN10 bolts have a 0.955 thread length regardless of grip length. They can be torqued to 92-108 lb-ft with AN365 or AN310 full-height nuts, or 50-65 lb-ft with AN364 or MS21042 half-height nuts. Indicated lengths are UHL: Under Head Length (aka Full Shank Length or Overall Length not including bolt head).
