Washers Bushings Rings Shims Spacers

Washers, Bushings, Rings, Shims and Spacers are listed in this category. They are used extensively in aerospace but also in other industrial applications. They are offered as OEM products or as part of our own labelled (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines in different materials, sizes and standards/specifications.

Aircraft washers are used in airframe structures. They come in different international Standards including US Army-Navy (AN), NAS or MS, German (DIN) and DIN - Aerospace Standards (LN), European (EN), French NFL, NSA, PAN, TAN and others.  They usually include plain (such as AN960 and AN970)and lock (such as AN935 and AN936) washers. The first (plain washers) are used for nuts to protect the metal from being scratched when the nut is turned down. They also may be used as a shim under a nut to compensate for a bolt that is slightly long. The second (lock washers) come in various designs and used to hold the nut under tension on a bolt to prevent its turning. The most common type is split lock washers made of heavy spring steel, split, and twisted with teeth cut into the inner circumference or in the outer circumference. Other types of washers are also used such as NAS143 and MS20002 washers for internal wrenching bolts of the NAS144 through NAS158 series.

Aircraft bushings are isolator bearings that are designed for use with rotating parts. In airplanes, they allow parts to rotate without the need for lubricants.

Aircraft retaining rings help holding mating components or assemblies together. They sit in a groove (housing or shaft) and can be internal (housing) or external (shaft) retaining ring types.

Aircraft shims are thin pieces of material used to fill gaps in bolted joints.

Aircraft spacers are used to secure wiring, tubing, and ducting away from the aircraft structure.

Aircraft washers used in airframe construction or repair works are either plain, lock, or special type washers.

AN960/AN960L series are aeronautical (Army-Navy) standard flat washers superseded by the respective washers in NAS1149/NAS1149L series. They come in regular thickness (NAS1149/AN960) or light thickness (NAS1149L/AN960L) indicated by the letter "L" in the dash number of the product reference number (SKU). They are made from different materials such as carbon steel, corrosion resistant steel (CRES) and aluminum alloys. These washers are used under hex nuts to provide a smooth bearing surface, as shims to obtain the correct grip length for a bolt and nut assembly, and to adjust the position of AN310 and AN320 castle nuts with respect to drilled cotter pin holes in bolts and clevis pins.

NAS1149/AN960 and NAS1149L/AN960L series washers are offered as part of our own labeled (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines. They can be furnished in different materials (such as carbon steel, CRES, anodized aluminum or aluminum alloy), different finishes and different inside, outside diameters and thicknesses in inches.  Letters in the part number of NAS1149/AN960 washers are used for material and finish specification. Please refer to the supplied documentation for information on available sizes, materials, finishes and cross reference between  AN960  and NAS1149 series washers.

Sold in packs with a specified number of washers per pack indicated after the letters "PK" in the product reference number (SKU).

NORD-LOCK® Wedge-Locking...

The NORD-LOCK GROUP is a global leader in engineering and bolting technologies manufacturing  Nord-Lock® wedge-locking washers, Superbolt™ mechanical tensioners, Boltight™ hydraulic tensioners and Expander® System pivot pins.

NORD-LOCK® created the original wedge-locking technology utilising tension instead of friction to secure bolted joints, even when exposed to severe vibration and dynamic loads.

NORD-LOCK® wedge-locking washers offer increased operational reliability and lower maintenance costs over the operational life cycle, while significantly reducing the risks of production stops, accidents and warranty claims. Due to the wedge created underneath the bolt head and nut, unintentional loosening of fasteners is prevented. Additional features and benefits of using NORD-LOCK® wedge-locking washers include:

- Offered in steel and stainless steel material 254 SMO® providing excellent corrosion resistance for use in any general saltwater application

- Available in different bolt sizes in Metric (M3 to M42) and Inch (#5 - 1 1/2”) systems

- Available in standard and SP outer diameters. SP Washers exhibiting the same wedge-locking design as original washers, but with an enlarged outer diameter. The SP washers are designed to be used together with flanged bolts and nuts (ISO 4161,4162) on oversized and slotted holes, or on sensitive surfaces and soft materials.

- Quick and easy to install and remove with hand tools

- Locking function not affected by lubrication

- High corrosion resistance. The washers have been tested with at least 1,000 hours in the Neutral Salt Spray Test (*), ensuring optimum performance over time, even in the most extreme environments.

- Reliable locking, even for joints with short clamp length

- Reusable (depending on usage environment)

- Testing & Certification. Rigorously tested (**) and approved by independent institutes as well as certification authorities.

Commonly sold in packs of specified number of washer pairs per pack. For additional information please refer to the supplied documentation or contact us.

(*) The Neutral Salt Spray Test (NSST according to ISO 9227) is one of the most established methods to verify corrosion resistance.

(**) Junker test, the most rigorous method for testing bolted joints. During the test, the joint is exposed to transverse movements underneath the bolt head and nut, while clamping force is continuously measured. Nord-Lock washers consistently outperform the competition in this challenging environment.
