Nuts

Nuts are extensively used in a wide range of aerospace and industrial applications. This category includes an extensive collection of nuts sourced by quality producers and offered in different types, standard and miniature versions, shapes, various materials & finishes, sizes, aerospace/military or industrial (commercial) specifications/standards and packing options to meet application requirements. Aerospace/Military nuts commonly used in aircraft applications are usually made of cadmium plated carbon steel, stainless steel or  aluminum alloys and structured in different series based on the standard they conform(*). Non Military (Commercial) nuts meet DIN, ISO and other standards.

Nuts can divided into general groups such as  self-locking and non-self-locking hexagonal nuts or anchor nuts (aka nut plates).

Non-self-locking nuts are those that must be safetied by external locking devices, such as cotter pins, safety wire, or locknuts. Self-locking nuts contain the locking feature as an integral part. Anchor nuts (aka nut plates) are designed for blind mounted applications where it is impractical to use hexagonal nuts and are available in different types (fixed or floating, one lug, two lugs, corner, etc.).

Nuts are offered as part of their producers' respective brands,  or as our own branded (AVIATIONEU NEW ERA) product lines which are competitively priced and consist cost effective alternatives to the respective OEM parts. In certain cases, they are also offered as parts of aircraft and aircraft engine manufacturers. They are available in Metric(**) or Imperial systems and sold in in pieces although packs are also used, where the number of nuts per pack is indicated after the letters "PK" in the product SKU. Appearing prices are always for the used units of measurement each time. For additional information please refer to the individual product presentations, the supplied documentation or contact us.

(*) Common Aerospace/Military Fastener Standards

Army-Navy Standards (AN)

Predecessor to Mil-Spec (MS), AN fasteners are the industry standard for aircraft, indicating that these fasteners are made to military specifications to stand up to the toughest jobs without faltering.

Military Standards  (Mil-Spec, MS)

A United States Defense Standard is used to help achieve standardization objectives by the U.S. Department of Defense. Also used by other non-Defense government organizations, technical organizations, and industry.

National Aerospace Standards (NAS & NA)

“NAS” stands for National Aerospace Standard. The NA prefix is for Metric standards. NAS standards include Part Standards for high strength, precision fasteners.

Aerospace Industries Association Standards (NASM and NAM)

Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), in coordination with the US Department of Defense, has converted a number of MIL-spec's to NAS. These now carry a “NASM” (for inch based) or “NAM” (for Metric based) prefix. The standard continues to be procured to the MS part number.

(**) There is currently no military specification for Metric nut plates.

  • Mfr. P/N & Title: MS21048L4 Fixed Self-Locking Two-Lug Nut Plate, Thread: 1/4-28, dry film lube

AVIATIONEU NEW ERA...

MS21048/NAS680 Series nutplates (*) are offered as part of AVIATIONEU NEW ERA product lines. Sourced from quality manufacturers these low height fixed self-locking two-lug nutplates are made from corrosion resistant steel (CRES) with a passivated finish. They are same as those of MS21047 series except that they are made from stainless steel 450F or 800F with silver plating. They have a nylon insert and are available in different Unified thread sizes, with plain rivet or countersunk rivet holes on each side and come with or without a dry film lube. MS21048 nutplates supercede AN362, AN366, NAS680  and are superseded by NASM21048 series.

Nutplates with a dry film lube are specified by the letter "L" in the part number.

Nutplates with countersunk rivet holes are specified by the letter "K" in the end of the part number.

Competitively priced, these nut plates are cost effective alternatives to the respective OEM parts. They are usually sold in pieces but packs are also used where the number of anchor nuts per pack is indicated after the letters "PK" in the product SKU. Appearing prices are always for the used units of measurement each time. For additional information, please refer to the product specifications or contact us.

(*) Anchor nuts (aka nut plates or anchor plates) are stamped sheet metal fasteners are used in blind mounted panel applications, where it is impractical to use hex nuts or where it is desirable to have an attached nut for ease of maintenance. They are usually riveted to a workpiece and have an internally threaded tube and a plate with two clearance holes for rivets. These terms are used interchangeably to describe the respective fasteners.
