The 2024 aluminum alloy is often used in aircraft structural applications due to its high strength and fatigue resistance. Like other 2000 series alloys, 2024 is primarily alloyed with copper. It also contains manganese and magnesium and can sometimes contain smaller amounts of silicon, iron, chromium, zinc and/or titanium. This alloy features high strength, poor corrosion resistance and weldability, good workability, and fair machinability. It is suited to applications that require high stress and strain resistance. The 2024 aluminum alloy is stronger but less versatile than 6061 alloy (also known as “structural aluminum”) which is more corrosion resistant, easier to weld, and more suited to machining. Compared to the 7075 alloy, also commonly used in the aerospace industry, the 7075 alloy with a tensile strength of 83,000 psi and a yield strength of 73,000 psi, is stronger than 2024 making it suitable for applications that require high stress/strain resistance.

2024 aluminum alloy sheets/plates are offered as part of AVIATIONEU NEW ERA product lines. They come as Annealed (O Temper) without heat treatment or heat treated in various tempers (such as T3,T4,T5,T6, T651 or others) to attain their maximum strength (*). They can be supplied in different finishes (Untreated (Bare), Anodized or CLAD (referred to as ALCLAD). Anodization makes aluminum stronger, longer-lasting, and more durable in a wider variety of environments and applications.
Anodization makes aluminum stronger, longer-lasting, and more durable in a wider variety of environments and applications. The surface becomes three times as hard as untreated aluminum, with increased resistance to abrasion, corrosion, and physical impact damage. CLAD sheets/plates are formed from high-purity aluminum surface layers metallurgically bonded to the aluminum alloy core material providing improved protection against fracture, fatigue crack growth & corrosion resistance.
Heat treated aluminum has the addition of copper, magnesium, zinc or silicon. This allows the material to be heat treated or solution heat treated. While the addition of these alloying elements allows for greater strength it also reduces the corrosive resistance of the material and that is where cladding comes in. To increase the corrosion resistance the material is clad with high purity aluminum. The clad is usually a film from 2.5% to 5% of the total thickness of the material and not only protects it from corrosion but also has a galvanic effect to further protect the core material while maintaining the strength characteristics of the alloy.
Depending on the selected product & manufacturer they comply with US SAE AMS, ASTM specifications or other standards.
AVIATIONEU NEW ERA 2024 aluminum alloy sheets/plates are available in an extensive range of stocked thicknesses & standard or cut-to-order widths and lengths in inch or metric systems. If not in stock, approximate lead time for shipping is usually 1-2 months from the time of order placement, depending on the ordered quantity. They are sold in pieces or in bulk with US or Metric Tons (as specified) as the unit of sale when large quantities of such sheets/plates are demanded.
For bulk supplies, AVIATIONEU NEW ERA 2024 aluminum alloy sheets/plates can be supplied in the following metric dimensions or their inch equivalents:
Thicknesses: 0.1 - 350 mm,
Widths: 100 - 2500 mm,
Lengths: 800 - 12000 mm (12 m).
Standard (Stocked) Widths/Lengths (in mm) : 1000 X 2000, 1200 X 2400, 1220 X 2440
Offered prices depend on selected products and quantities. Prices and availability are subject to confirmation with our co-operating suppliers before order placement. Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ) depend on the required product.
Transport to customer destination can be arranged at additional cost. Small quantities are usually shipped by air transport while for bulk quantities sea/sea-surface transport is used.
All AVIATIONEU NEW ERA metals are supplied free from oil stains, dents, inclusions, scratches, oxide discolorations, corrosion, or other defects, with PVC film cover, one/two side(s), depending on the producer & properly packaged for protection during the shipment. Different packing options available: wooden pallets, hardboard, kraft paper and plastic.

(*) All aluminum alloys, regardless of product form, are classified as either heat-treatable or non heat-treatable, depending upon the method used to attain their maximum strength. The modification methods applied to heat- and non heat-treatable alloys are listed in the Temper Designation System (see attached table).
